Early Mac Pros finally get their NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Upgrade Kit
When Apple introduced the new Mac Pros, they came with new graphics cards... that weren't compatible with previous Mac Pros. This has caused some consternation amongst owners of the neglected machines, who have been wondering for a while when their problem-ridden video cards might get some Apple love. Fret no more, it's here.If you're looking for the extra power of the GeForce 8800 GT for your pre-2008 Mac Pro, head to the product page. And, as noted by my friend (and perturbed pre-2008 Mac Pro owner) Peter Boysen, there's actually a somewhat surprising price drop of about $70 from the previously available kits.
Thanks Will, Chris and Peter!

This is yet another reason I'll never recommend a Mac to a friend or get one myself. You guys get raped in prices.
Newegg literally has them for $100 less.
I have a late (January 2008) Mac Pro will this card work in it? Because the older ATI Radeon I bought on ebay had scan lines all over etc. and ATI has yet to release a firmware update for thi sparticualy X 1900 XT (or whatever the number)
Thanks in advance...
Lane
Is this card supposed to be a better performer than the much more expensive Radeon X1900 XT?

Great...
Best to keep the Radeon HD 2600 XT or Radeon X1900 XT for the time being if the programs you rely on uses any form of Core Image acceleration, ex. Motion or Aperture.
Is there a way to get one of these running in a PPC G5? Without flashing the card please
April 17 2008 at 5:26 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyStill $90 more than everyone else has to pay for a (now last gen) graphics card. Unfortunate, but I guess they have a captive market, so there's no need for competitive pricing. Any plans for a 9800?
And since someone would inevitably say my claim wasn't backed up, here you go: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318
It's actually a $120 savings if you include the mail in rebate.
just ordered mine. I should have it middle of next week.

2) There is no link to the pre-2008 Mac Pro 8800 GT product page. Here it is:

3) Oh yeah - the price is $279. Might be worth mentioning.
