If you've been looking to get the perfect Mother's Day gift, Apple says to look no further than iPhoto or Aperture. It's that special time of year when we celebrate our mothers (of course, if you ask Mom every day is Mother's Day), and Apple is cutting us a break! You can now get 20% off of iPhoto books when you use the promo code LoveMom at checkout. This promo code is valid for iPhoto or Aperture users in the US and Canada and is good until May 11, 2008. Apple recommends that you order by April 30 for standard delivery and May 4 for express delivery so that you get your book in time for Mother's Day.
You can read more about this promotion on Apple's website.

you think if you're living in e.g. south africa, australia can order prints at an acceptable rate, that's if they actually ship them there.

I hear you. I live in Japan and would love to send a photo book to my folks in the U.S. So much for living in a borderless world, at least as far as Apple is concerned.

Has the print quality of the book improved in anyway? They were disappointing the last time I looked (about 1.5 to 2 years ago), with visible dithering and dull contrast.

Okay got my book today. It's not that bad. A majority of the pics came out great! However a number of them did have some dithering and I think was due to my overzealous use of iPhoto's builtin tools to zoom into a pic. The pages that contained just one picture tended to exhibit the dithering more than pages that contained multiple smaller images. A few of the pics seemed washed out.
Basically the final product is different than what you'll see rendered in iPhoto. I'm going to put together another book with vacation photos taken with a 10mb camera -- my first book was put together with photos that I scanned into my machine. I'm hoping the new one will look better.
