Rivet media sharing for Xbox 360

Mac users who have wanted to share audio, video, and pictures with their Xbox 360s have had to depend on Connect360 from Nullriver Software. Now, however, there's a new option: Rivet from Cynical Peak Software. Frankly, it does about the same thing as Connect360, running in your menu bar and allowing you to share media to your Xbox 360, though it does add a few convenient features.

According to the developer, Rivet allows you to "supply multiple search paths for your media" and display your folder media folder hierarchies properly (instead of in a long, flat list). So if you've been frustrated by those limitations, Rivet is worth a look. In my brief testing it worked just about as well as Connect360.

Rivet is $18.95 and a demo is available from Cynical Peak Software.

It would be nice if one of the two softwares flaten the show like xbmc does.

Meaning if you cd1 and cd2 at the end of the file name it just shows it as one file.

I will have a look at that, as Connect360 stopped working for Music after the last update and I have not received an answer to my support request from January yet. Might have to spend some money on that yet again, but the custom soundtrack is just such a great addition to any game.

After Nullriver's abandonment of PSPWare, I'm glad to see another option to get my content over to the 360. Rivet here I come! I refuse to give Nullriver any more of my money.

Hm, doesn't the Xbox 360 now play DivX/XviD/Quicktime MP4 and a bunch of other formats, or am I missing something..?

These apps allow you to stream the media directly from your mac over the network. No need to burn discs or attach hard drives to your 360.

Glad to see some competition in this space. Hopefully this will spur Nullriver to deliver some much needed updates to Connect 360 and MediaLink. I would not be surprised if Cynical released a PS3 version.

However, I won't spend money on something I already own regardless of if it adds a couple of new tweaks.

No kidding. Nullriver ignores my emails, and seems in no hurry to deliver any of the promised new features.
I'll definitely give Rivet a try.

Works just as well as Connect360, I'll be happy when either one displays my shows by the name of the show and not just the episode name though.

Nigel, switch the update preference in Rivet over to cutting edge. It's not up yet, but in the next day or so the first build of what will be 1.1 will be posted. The first thing added is better display of video podcasts and TV shows that are in iTunes. They'll be sorted by show and season if you've set that meta data in iTunes.
