Bootcamp 2.1 has just been released in three Windowslicious flavors: Windows XP, Vista 32 bit, and Vista 64 bit. All three updates 'address issues and improve compatibility,' which is always a welcome thing.Bootcamp, in case you aren't in the know, is Apple's utility that allows you to dual boot your Mac: one partition boots OS X and another boots Windows (it is a little creepy, but very cool).
Windows XP users take note: Bootcamp 2.1 should be installed before you apply Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Thanks, ben.

Wait, Boot Camp for Vista x64? Does that mean I can finally install my 64-bit version of Vista and expect to able to control the volume?
Sweet?! POSSIBLY?!

Boot Camp has been Vista 64 compatible since the Mac Pro (Early 2008) models came out. I've been running Vista 64 on mine for a couple months now.

Yeah Zak, but I'm not sure I can find working Vista x64 drivers for my MacBook Pro :(

Yes! I wonder if this update includes updated video drivers for the Nvidia 8800GT? Only one way to find out I guess. Updating I go...

This is a .exe file, guess it updates the drivers only in Windows. Not Bootcamp itself.

If you haven't installed Boot Camp yet (but intend to soon) is there anything you first need to do to get this update? My Software Update isn't registering it.

Software Update won't show you 2.1 if you don't already have 2.0 installed - it's upgrade software.

Software update's not showing it for me at all, ans I have 2.0. Guess I'll just have to do it the old-fashioned way.

I suppose it will only show up through the Apple Update tool from within Windows.

Hey, I have the Bootcamp 1.4, the last beta, installed. Yeah, I'm still running Tiger. Can I still install this 2.1 update to my Windows partition without any negative effects?

Actually, Bootcamp dropped Tiger support, so it's best to stick with your current version because you're "technically" not supposed to use it.

You need to have at least 2.0 to apply the update. That's the version that shipped with Leopard. 1.4 is beta.

Can you PXE boot and do a remote windows installation to a partition created with Boot Camp?

You can PXE boot and install Windows over a network if you have an in house Server running Windows Server 2k, 2003, or 2008. You need to setup the Server to run, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and RIS. There are a few guides on how to do this, but can be quite time consuming if you haven't done it before. (roughly 6 hours for a newb, less than 3 for a professional)
I am not sure that you will be able to boot to OSX after this. It might require some final tweaks to polish up the boot procedure.
You can read more about it (and its replacement, WDS):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_Installation_Services
I have done this numerous times for Windows workstations. I have yet to try it with a BootCamp setup. But I am sure it is possible if you have enough time, and determination. Should probably back up EVERYTHING first, and that is experience speaking.

hmm if this has to be installed before service pack 3 is installed does that mean I can't use a slipstreamed cd? that sucks.

No, that is not what this means. It means that you cannot install SP3 on your windows partition without having updated Bootcamp to 2.1.
Am I saying that the slipstream CD will work? No, but if it worked before this should not change that.

FYI: You can slipstream drivers onto a Windows disk as well. This may be a bit challenging, but it is possible to include all BootCamp 2.1 drivers and SP3 onto a slipstreamed disc.
And, you are correct. If you slipstream SP3 onto the windows disc without the drivers you are probably asking for trouble.

So is this just an update? Or could you install this on a clean install of XP/Vista without any bootcamp software/drivers already installed?
