Next talkcast: Open phones and giveaways
This Sunday night at 10 PM EST, Michael Rose, our consumate Talkcast host, will once agin be out of town, so I'll be taking his place. Hopefully, we won't run into any of the technical difficulties we ran into last week. We'll be taking open calls and discussing the top stories of the week, attempting to answer any of your questions, talking about Apple rumors...oh yeah, and we'll be giving away schwag (including some software) for correct trivia answers.
To join the conversation and try your hand at winning, just log onto TalkShoe, either with or without an account, by using the shiny new browser-only client (no downloading required and no registration needed). Just click the "TalkShoe Web" button on our profile page at 10 pm Sunday. You can also listen in on the Talkshoe page or call in on regular phone or VOIP lines: dial (724) 444-7444 and enter our talkcast ID: 45077.

Hey Jason,
In the past, we DID do a better job in post editing the talkcasts, but feed issues related to Mail.app (in Leopard, our attachment slows down the app and we've had tons of reader complaints) have forced us to use the straight Talkcast feed for the time being (and it isn't the same quality as recording it on our end).
I've got everything set-up for tomorrow and as long as Skype and Talkshoe are working (or just Skype, really, -- I can have talkshoe running on a different computer entirely if need be), we should be good to go.
"Hopefully, we won't run into any of the technical difficulties we ran into last week."
Not just last week. It seems that every week there are a number of technical issues, even "minor" things like mic feedback, loud keyboard clicking, and background noise, not to mention the 6 full minutes of dead air last week. I listen to the podcast because I'm always unavailable to listen live on Sunday nights. I love listening to the Talkcast for the discussion, but the technical issues are making it unbearable. (Ironically, Michael often talks about "editing things out", but since I'm listening on the podcast, I guess it's safe to assume that nothing actually gets edited out.)
I don't mean to criticize. You guys generally do a great job, but these problems don't seem to be getting any better.
PLEASE, rely on more than hope that these technical issues are resolved. They pop up every week and significantly take away from the Talkcast. If the problem is Talkshoe, I hope you are either working with them to resolve the issues or looking for another client.
Thanks,
Jason
Jason, thanks for the feedback. Some things are under our control for the show (like reducing keyboard and background noise); some things aren't (like Skype and TalkShoe hiccups affecting our audio quality).
When time and resources permit I do prefer to edit the show so that the podcasted quality is as high as possible -- that has to be balanced with getting the show out within a reasonable timeframe (and if I were as fast on the edit as Victor Cajiao, it would be easier! :-). For the past month or so, that hasn't been possible, so the 'raw' recording has gone up with the basics of normalization and tweaking. For the May shows, I'm going to do my best to get a clean and optimized show up within 48 hours.
