The guys over at
the Google Mac blog have dropped
a new little open source application called Visigami, which serves as a more "interesting" and "fun" way to browse and play around with images online. Basically, after installing the app, you can then pull in pics from Picasa, Google Images, or Flickr (
iPhoto is just a suggestion so far), and then search, animate, zoom in or out on them, and even turn them right into a screensaver.
It's a pretty neat little application -- not exactly the kind of thing that anyone has probably been hoping for (it seems more fun than utilitarian), but if you find yourself often browsing photos online, this definitely seems like a more fun way to do it. And it's one more reason to praise all the great developers working on our platform -- it's little apps like this that make the Mac user experience so much better.

I'd be a great way of getting CC and non-copyrighted images...

It would be if one could download the picture from Visigami or at least select a picture and go to the page it's on (maybe I'm missing something?) If they add that to the application, then I would definitely use it to find photos to use in designs.

Ya, because all us photographers love going out in the extreme weather and conditions and wasting our time so other people can profit off our efforts.
Ya, I sure hope they can offer that up.

John, if you don't want other people to use your photographs for profit you should license them properly.
David said "cc and non copyrighted", and he did not mention anything about profits.
If a web designer wants to use the pictures for profits, and you don't like that, you should use the non-commercial CC license (or not even CC, for that sake ;-)). It's all up to you.

I must agree completely.
You don't get fun little apps like this on Windows and that's one of the reasons why it's nowhere near as good in terms of user experience.

First, thanks again for keeping all us jacked-in to your blog-- well-informed of new, useful, and entertaining information.
Second, I'm going to side with the recommendation. The PicLens recommendation.
PicLens is by far, for any computing category, a best-in-show (hmm, not a bad pun) enhancement to the computing, let alone, browser/image surfing experience.
It's form matches its function. To the Nth degree.
It's definitely a "WOW, look at that app", one of the top twenty I've seen since beginning my computer experience on the Mac, in 1984. Yes, that's right, since the runner threw the hammer.
Thanks again for worthwhile daily reads.
Michael
