As someone who regularly runs his iPhone battery all the way down I was interested when Kensington announced two new external batteries for the iPhone. The standard battery pack and charger is a larger stand-alone battery that connects to the iPhone via a dock cable and offers "playing time up to 100 hours of music; 21 hours of video; 6 hours of talk." Personally, however, I find the smaller mini battery pack (pictured right) more intriguing since it simply plugs into the dock connector and offers up to 3 hours extra talk time. The standard battery pack is available for $69.99 while the mini battery pack is $49.99.

See when the iPhone was first announced people complained about the battery life. Now scratch that one off the list.

How could you spell Kensington incorrectly twice, even with the photo that has the company name in it?

If you had attended my journalism school, you would have been docked 50 points for a typo in your headline, and a repeated misspelling of the manufacturer's name.
How about a review of this instead of just a press release?

yeah, yet another error from TUAW. they've been criticised quite a few times recently for poorly written and copy/paste articles.
Just a few other ones they've made I can quickly recall:
- "Vodaphone"
- mac apps copied from lifehacker
- old news (like 4 day old)
other than that - about this battery, why not just plug this directly onto the iphone lol -- hang on... won't other battery packs work as well?

Will these work with the iPod Touch as well? I could use an external battery pack for mine.

Seems like they should work with any iPod/iPhone that has a dock connector. It's only supplying power, so it shouldn't require any software or data transfer between devices....basically the same as plugging your ipod into a wall as far as the ipod knows.
That's my guess anyway!

Read the press release... it says specifically that it is for both the iPhone and the iPod.

I wonder how long those keep/hold a charge. It would be great to store that little one in the car/briefcase for emergency power.

I am so tired of everyone in the comments waiting to pounce on TUAW for typos and mistakes. Shutup, enjoy the site or leave.

@Trevor- That Richard Solo device is as big as the iPhone, but just sticks out the bottom..? Not very handy for keeping on the phone.
The battery from Kensington appears equally awkward.
My 8gb iPhone had horrible battery life. I replaced it with a 16gb a couple of months ago and it seems to have much better battery life. Maybe just because it's newer, or maybe I got a lemon on the first phone.
I just decided to try the Mophie Juice Pack, which, while huge, at least has a more reasonable form factor for actually attaching and leaving on your phone while in use.

It's only a matter of time before we start seeing these for MacBook Airs.

Will they be as large as the Air and stick out the side front doubling the surface area form factor also? LOL
