Adium adds Facebook Chat support; emo kids cheer worldwide
Adium, the tasty multi-client Mac chat app, is about to get even tastier: developer Evan Schoenberg announced today on the Adium blog that he's adding Facebook Chat to the ridiculously long list of instant messaging protocols already supported by the app. He even included a screenshot of the new protocol in action, seen on the right. No word on when the new release will be available, unfortunately, but you can keep track at the Adium blog.
Thanks, Chris!

Facebook for emo? I don't have anyone emo on my facebook list.
TUAW is rapidly going downhill. First they break all the Mac news 3-4 days late, and now they bring in a spat of new writers that insult their (dwindling?) readership. Half the posts are for software shills, or software that does something the OS already does (the Thesaurus post).
Lately my Mac news comes from elsewhere first and I'm finding less reasons to keep visiting after all these years.
Hay! I represent the National Federation of Emos, Emoids and Depressed Hipsters (NFEEDH). I resemble that remark, f*ckhead!
Actually, Emos and Emoids (note that the terms should be capitalized) are a misunderstood and frequently oppressed subcultural minority group, both on and off American campuses. We come in all shapes, sizes, colors, genders, and sexual orientations, and we struggle daily for visibility, dignity and respect, in a society that is all-too-frequently callous and indifferent toward our pain. An Emo or an Emoid might be your brother or your sister; s/he might be your cousin, your next-door neighbor, your barista or that "kid" washing the tables at your local hipster dive.
So the next time, Mr Ellis, you decide to take a potshot at our expense, in a lame attempt to appear "down" with current pop cultural trends, please be forwarned: NFEEDH is watching, and we know how to wield a baseball bat like it ain't no thing!
When Facebook first announced Facebook Chat a few weeks ago, I thought it was the dumbest idea ever. My rationale was that a) Facebook already has mechanisms for communicating (messages, wall posts, pokes, etc), and b) most people on FB also have AIM, MSN or Yahoo Messenger, or some other IM program. I argued that this would only give people more incentive to waste more time on FB every day.
I'm not putting down FB as a whole. I have an account and it's very useful. But why chat on FB when you have FB Walls and Messages and some other IM service? Well, now that FB Chat is headed to Adium, it sort of defeats my argument (if only for those FB users who also use a Mac and Adium) since people on FB Chat might not actually be visiting the FB site at the time.
Bottom line? Kudos to the Adium team, who will enable me to talk to those of my friends who have AIM/etc. accounts but for some reason will begin to use FB chat more often instead.
Please note that almost none of my friends are Mac users, so the notion of using AIM/etc. and FB chat with the same app will be foreign to them, but will help me quite a bit.

Also - way to introduce yourself Joshua Ellis. You're not only a douchebag, but an idiot to boot.
...also... that picture of you is disgusting.
OK, we get it. Facebook isn't the watering hole for emos. Please, STFU now. Why are you defending a social networking site anyway? Oh, thats right...you're morons.

Boot this "failboat"
I don't get the emo ref.....
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH I'M NOT AN EMO KID!!!!
Oh dear lord, get over yourselves. There are tons of little emo kids on Facebook -- just because YOU are also on Facebook, you are not automatically an emo kid. Facebook is not some kind of bastion of intellectual discourse where people who listen to sad, sad music are banned.
But y'know -- emo kids are pretty ready to fight you for calling them emo kids. So maybe all these complainers really ARE emo kids.
I remember back when I had this pin from unamerican.com that said CHEER UP EMO KID; twice a week some pale, skinny guy would threaten to beat me up because of it. Seriously, if you don't consider yourself an emo kid THEN THE PIN DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU.
I had to stop wearing it.
like everyone else, emo? why the heck would anyone call facebook emo? it kind of isn't emo last time i checked...friends and enemies is emo, but facebook? an international social website that a lot of people participate in, including even my mother, does that make her emo? just change the emo part, its annoying honestly.
