Adium adds Facebook Chat support; emo kids cheer worldwide
Adium, the tasty multi-client Mac chat app, is about to get even tastier: developer Evan Schoenberg announced today on the Adium blog that he's adding Facebook Chat to the ridiculously long list of instant messaging protocols already supported by the app. He even included a screenshot of the new protocol in action, seen on the right. No word on when the new release will be available, unfortunately, but you can keep track at the Adium blog.
Thanks, Chris!

for the record, facebook isn't exactly for the emo kid population. until fairly recently, it was reserved for a much different demographic - people enrolled in colleges and universities.
myspace chat, on the other hand, would make the emo kids rejoice.

@ Merv... take a pill. So, he made a mistake. Your comment was so unnecessary.

Emo kids?
How did you get hired here? Fail.

Swing and a miss there, Joshua. Facebook is hardly considered the emo hangout.
Might want to avoid uselessly insulting sites.

Ignoring the fact that I just got called an emo, I have to say that I am pleased to see this being added. There are a few friends that I have who no longer log into AIM, MSN, or any other protocol because Facebook is in their browser at all times. I, myself, hate the way it all works and despise how large the pop out chat box is (too large for practical use in the Firefox sidebar, sadly) so being able to use it in Adium will make me very happy.

I could try to explain it in words but here are a few attempts at describing this sad slice of american sociology. Which doesn't really relate to facebook at all, the writer was just hoping to sound clever.

Google says:
Emo is a somewhat ambiguous, controversial slang term most frequently used to describe a fashion or subculture which is usually defined to have its roots in punk fashion and subculture, as well as some attributes of gothic fashion and subculture.

Exactly! (kidding)
I use Facebook to keep in touch with people that I otherwise would not keep in touch with. And I do not consider myself emo in any way. I actually formed a group that is getting quite a few members that called "Make Facebook IM OPEN with XMPP (aka Jabber)", so hopefully that group grows and Facebook takes the hint that maybe having programs like Adium rely on a closed source platform isn't the best idea

I don't know anyone who uses the Facebook chat, mostly because its just started to spread up here in Canada. In a few months this may prove useful when everyone starts using it.

i don't think i've even seen an emo kid on facebook. they're all on myspace with the wiggers.
(note to Data and other internationals. "emo" is pretty much what you get when you cross a goth with an indie rocker. and "wigger," which i just used, is pretty much the same thing as a chav.)

Why is one allowed to say wigger and not n*gger? Shouldn't it be Wafrican Wamerican?
