New version of Parallels supports Vista SP1, XP SP3
Parallels, Inc. yesterday released a new version of its flagship virtualization app Parallels Desktop (3.0.5600), which includes support for Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3. It also fixes some kernel panic issues, unusually high CPU usage, and provides improvements to Shared Folders.Parallels allows Macs with Intel processors to run Windows apps alongside Mac apps. You can follow our past coverage of Parallels here.
The update is free for existing Parallels 3 users, and is available as a 88 MB DMG package.

SP3 installed fine on my older Parallels install a few weeks back. I'd bet this is minor compatibility issues but I'd love a bug fix for "slow my entire system to a crawl when bringing a suspended virtual machine active".

May 11 2008 at 9:11 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'd absolutely LOVE it if this solves the "slowing down to a crawl" issue when I start Parallels. But of course, Parallels is telling me my software (build 5582) is up to date. "No time for love, Dr. Jones" says Parallels.

May 10 2008 at 7:30 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm just hoping this update will solve some of their networking and internet connection issues in Leopard. I've been struggling with that for weeks, with no joy found from the support forums, etc.
I'm running a trial of VMWare Fusion, right now, and finding it to do better with most of the networking stuff (as in it can actually access the internet), though it has limitations in terms of the interaction between the VM and OSX.
:) My trial of VMWare Fusion ran SP3 XP just fine a couple days ago.
I also find its networking to "just work" better. Parallels is awfully complicated (though it does offer much more control).
According to my tests, Parallels is substantially faster with Vista SP1 and this build, than it was in January and before SP1.
