Solid Snake equips with an iPod

Hot on the heals of the GTA IV iFruit parody comes another console gaming nod to Cupertino, though this time with considerably less snark. The upcoming PS3 presumptive blockbuster Metal Gear Solid 4 will apparently feature some interesting equipment to augment Solid Snake's already impressive arsenal: a 5th generation 30GB iPod. The French video game site JEUXFRANCE has high resolutions images (front and back). It now remains to be seen if Snake can execute his signature stealth kills with an iPod headset garrote.

First off, it doesn't look very real. It isn't Anti-aliased and I'm pretty sure an iPod does not weigh 6.8 Kilograms (15 lbs). I'm not going to believe it until I get proof.

Proof? It's on the MGS4/Konami website (you'll have to dig around the flash site for it, as it unlocks details as you do things).

In the game you can find/buy Metal Gear tracks from the various soundtracks and use the ipod (in Snakes inventory) to listen to the tracks.
They have a few product placements in this game, the iPod, a KDDI Sony Ericsson W62s (mobile phone which two characters use), Regain (Japanese energy drink) and Triumph motorcycles as well.
Just wish that the tie in would bring us a Metal Gear Solid edition iPod (similar to that Halo Zune that was released!)

if you had done any research before calling it fake (say check Kotaku or Joystiq), you would've seen that this is indeed real and was demoed by Kojima at the official unveiling of the game.
The 6.8KG is referring to Snake's currently equipped things, as seen in Snake Eater before.

good question. In fact why even read it? Or anything else on this crappy blog anyway. I never learn anything new and have to wade through gamer rumours and fake nonsense to extract even a tiny piece of useful or interesting info.
And then yesterday we find out that TUAW is owned by AOL? Puhlease. I am so outta here.

I thought this was fake too. Lame at least... until I thought about a MGS4 embossed iPod... that would be awesome. Or an iPhone with the codec ringtone...
