FlexTD - Free, Fast To-Do Entry
Up until today, entering to-do info into iCal was an exercise for my mouse-clicking finger. I'd click iCal in the Dock, click again on that little pushpin icon, and then finally double-click to create an empty to-do task to fill in. One more double-click, and I could actually edit the to-do and put in the information I needed.Enter FlexTD from flexgames. It's another unitasker, but it does one task very well - just hit a pre-defined hotkey and it brings up a transparent edit window. Type in your to-do, press return, and the info is entered into your favorite Mac calendar app.
One suggestion for the developers; the hotkeys only go up to F8, and I'd love to be able to assign something to F13 through F19 on my keyboard. How 'bout it?
The app is free, appears as a pref pane in System Preferences, and can start up at login. Many thanks to flexgames for a nice productivity booster!

It would be great if this could also do appointments in addition to the to-do entries.

Ditto, entering events is a pain in the neck as well. For something so simple and so common, it sure isn't easy. I wish I could just tab through a bunch of fields and be done with it, but instead I'm clicking way more than I should be.

This may not be perfect, but I sometimes use "Event Maker" to create multiple events without clicking through dates in iCal.

I hardly use the mouse anymore... Command+Tab to select iCal (or double-tap control to open quicksilver and launch it). Command+K to create a new to do, name it. Command+I to get info on it... I guess I still have to click for the priority and check the due date box... but you have to do that with FlexTD too.

I prefer Anxiety. Lightweight. It's there on login. Can toggle between calendars. And stays on the screen when I need it and disappears when I don't.

I've been using FlexTD for a couple of days and its worked well. I use Anxiety to read the lists, but Anxiety doesn't let you set priority.

To avoid having to use the mouse all-together with this, tab across to the check box and hit the 'Space' key. Voila, now you can tab over to the priority drop down use arrows and hit return once you've settled on importance.
Hope this helps guys!

The inability to tab between fields is not a limitation of this utility but rather a system setting in OS X.
To set it, go to System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts > All Controls at the bottom (button).
Now you can tab between the controls in FlexTD!
