TUAW Special: 24-Hour Evernote beta invitation

Your response to last week's post about Evernote was amazing, with over 250 people requesting beta invitations and jamming my email inbox. Evernote has followed up with a 24-hour open invitation just for TUAW readers. There's also a new 1.1.0a build of the beta that resolves a crashing bug.
Hurry over to this link:

Evernote looks pretty great but its Mac client has some issues. For one it does not allow the clipping function to be placed in the menu bar as designed. This limits functionality. I assume it will be fixed in time.

Not sure if you knew, but the menu item will appear if you toggle it off and back on. A bug, but you can work around it for now.

Tried that. Unfortunately it still did not work. Tried restarting computer as well just to get everything cleared out. Still no work. So tried a reinstall of the software. No go.

On the web settings page just drag the green 'clip to evernote' button up to your bookmark bar;)

Are you talking clipping a webpage into Evernote directly from your web browser? If so, get the link here: http://www.evernote.com/about/download/#a-webclipper
You can then drag the clipper icon there directly into your Bookmarks bar.

I think he is talking about the EVERNOTE icon in the menu bar like in the video. I also do not have this icon in the menu bar. Pretty useless without it. Anyone knows how to get it there? Also how do you assign a TODO Attribute?

@ Christopher McKinney.... try this ... Goto Evernote Preferences and select CLIPPER. You will probably have all the options ticked, tick OFF "Use the Evernote Clipper", wait a few seconds and tick it ON again. The icon in the menu bar should appear now. This is how I got mine to work. Hope this helps ... let us know.

Worked for me. You do have to wait a few seconds after ticking it off.

That worked for me too thanks. I wasn't getting help in the Evernote user forum, it's good to know I can't on TUAW for my support needs.

This is pretty cool, but I'm warry that it's going to be very expensive when it comes out of beta... Like maybe even a monthly fee. Not that it's not okay for the developer to do that, but I can only invest so much time into a new system I know will be too expensive for me.

So will this beta expire? I hope not, cos i don't mind using the beta forever ..... well unless the out of beta is FREE. I don't ever want to use the server facility so I hope the app will be free.

Ditto. I started using Journler a couple months ago and as far as I can tell, there's no export/import ability.
I have Evernote, but I'm not sure I should make the effort to transfer my Journler entries if I don't know what will happen when Evernote comes out of Beta. Will it be reasonable cost? Can I export export my text entries with the metadata easily?
umijin said 6:42PM on 5-19-2008
@ Christopher McKinney Yes, as Rashaad says. Turn it off then on again. I've reported this bug to the developers.
This is a very slick app. The online OCR of your images is way too cool.
If anyone else wants a beta invitation, I still have 20 left.

It would be much nicer if you could output its textual information obtained from images. The mac version doesn't allow you to export at all, and the windows just exports a web page with the original picture embedded. No way to make use of its decoded text except for internal searching. It has potential to be very useful if its encoding could be saved or passed off to another app.

Thank goodness this is here and Google exists to help me find it. I was one of the Mac folks unable to get the icon into the menu bar, which make the product very lame. Evernote never answered, but you guys nailed it. Thanks!

20 years w/PC's. just bought 24"iMac and am loving it. I had evernotes on the PC and behold, it's there for the Mac. Did a download and it is asking for a Login and Password. I also noticed that the download was a "beta". SO....I take it that thee is no pre-beta version for the Mac and that when I registered the email they are sending em will have the password...do I have that right?
