Mac Game 'Postal' in (very few) Theaters
Move over, Lara Croft -- it's time to go Postal! The (in)famous Mac video game from Running With Scissors is coming to the big screen today, albeit a small number of big screens. Postal first gained notoriety in 1997 as a Mac-only 2D shooter, and is famed for being banned in Australia for a few minor reasons -- things like using a cat as a gun silencer, gratuitous violence, and, in later versions, sexual themes and use of drugs and alcohol. Sounds like fun, eh?
The Postal flick follows the story line and general bad taste of the old Mac game. Controversial director and Razzie Award Nominee (twice) Uwe Boll somehow bribed and wheedled his way into showings at a whopping 12 theaters nationwide. Be sure to go see this film tonight if you're a fan of Postal, since it will probably close at all 12 theaters today as well. Of course, that means it may be on DVD and in the iTunes Store next Tuesday.
Me? I think I'll go see Indiana Jones instead.

Ugh. Another post that provides no Mac news, discussion, or anything. I don't mind 20 posts per day, but only if it's warranted by something interesting happening. Cut out the fluff, TUAW.

How else are the posters going to fill their quotas for the month to get that sweet, sweet internet money?

Postal was one of the most controversial (although not the most playable) Mac games of all time. The fact that it's become a minor motion picture is absolutely newsy.

Hey, if you had been a Mac user in 1997 when Postal came out, you'd know why I posted this! There was all sorts of stuff going on, including inclusion of Postal in Senate hearings on the "effects of computer gaming on children". This is Mac history, folks!

Agreed - as the dude in the game said: "the gun knows." Fun yet disturbing game. Anyone remember the marching band level? Heh heh heh...

So how come they don't make it for Mac any more? All the downloads I'm seeing are .exe files.

I owned Postal for Mac when it came out in 1997 and played it religiously on my Performa 6300 (I won't try to prove that I owned it like others by reciting lines or recreating scenes, but I didn't own it).
The movie has been in discussion and being panned for years now. It is old news. Where is the news on the Max Payne movie? Max Payne came out for the Mac. What about some Halo movie news?? Will there be a movie for Damage Incorporated. Personally I can't wait for Prime Target the movie with level design by Nate Birkholz. Or is that TOO Mac only for everyone?
btw, Postal 1 can be still played by purchasing the Postal 2 complete bundle or something like that from the MacGameStore.

They still sell a Mac version. I play it once in a while on a PowerBook 17" DL. It's a fun game.
