Delicious Library 2.0 is now shipping
The beta period is over and Delicious Library 2.0 is officially ready to go (we took an early look at version 2 back in March). If you're unfamiliar, Delicious Library is the beautiful personal media database (that's the fancy way of saying "it keeps track of your stuff") that's as fun as it is useful. Use your Mac's iSight camera to scan the UPC on a book, DVD, software, games, etc. and watch it appear on your "shelf." From there, you can track who you've loaned it to, publish your library to the web and a whole lot more.Version 2.0 includes more than 100 changes, including
- One-click web publishing
- Speedier graphics
- iTunes integration
- Three-click selling
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Wow -- I've been looking forward to this for a long time. I even made bets on which would ship first - DL2 or Firefox 3. Guess I'm going to have to take some of those winnings and get me a license.
Thanks to Wil for getting this out the door!

Maybe now you guys can ease up on the DL2 coverage just a bit?

Maybe they can focus on other apps that are just as good or better (the Pedias). When has TUAW *ever* done a story or given coverage to the Pedias?

I don't think they have. I'd like to see that. I'd like to see a real, honest review of DL2, too and not the endless sycophantic praise.

Im going to give it a miss for now. I own version 1 but even with the upgrade price i just don't see enough to make me want to upgrade. All i use it for is cataloging my dvd's and there really isn't much difference between version 1 and version 2 for that besides the UI

There actually are, but they're all under the hood. The biggest of which was the switch to a sqlite database as opposed to an XML file. If you have a big collection, you will appreciate this change.

I have 600 items in there currently. V1 really is slow with that many but i can live with it. The speed increase isn't enough to justify the upgrade price to me.

I was a fan of the first one, but after tinkering with DL2 for a tad, it just feels kind of bloated. I mean, Tools? C'mon. I know it's meant to be fun (I think), but still. There are still more basic, necessary features that need more focus.

I didn't see any mention of an upgrade cost.
There are certainly some snazzy new features, but DL1 is perfectly functional, but the only thing I really care about is a snappier UI and exporting lists, something that I think could have been handled back in Library 1.
Maybe when I've got money to burn.

It's $20 to upgrade from 1.x.

Honestly, I hardly ever use DL anymore. It is just kind of........boring.

Wanna not blogspam?
But in reference to the 10.5.3 graphics system update message, anyone have ideas on what its referring to?
Simon Arch said 2:01AM on 5-27-2008
Dude, how is that "hidden"? It comes up each and every time you launch the application under 10.5.2, unless you click the box to tell it not to.
Russ said 2:07AM on 5-27-2008
@Simon Arch
the hidden message is 10.5.3 isn't out yet, let alone knowing about a graphics update that is going to be in it
Simon Arch said 4:21AM on 5-27-2008
A hidden message would be an easter egg you have to hunt to find. This isn't hidden because a) it's right out there in front where anyone can see it and b) we already know 10.5.3 is coming out - we've been hearing reports of new versions being seeded. I expect it'll show up sometime in the next couple week to coincide with any new hardware releases at MacWorld.

@Simon Arch
sorry but to me the little hidden message in this is that, apple is release a fix for their last buggy graphics update. If it would have been an easter egg I would have called it that.
Apple hasn't publicly said they are releasing a graphics update, this app tells me a little secret that the developers know..... Apple appears to be releasing a graphics update and a critical one at that.

Not only is your comment blogspam, the "secret message" has already been posted on TUAW: http://www.tuaw.com/2008/05/23/delicious-library-2-beta-on-the-streets/

You should be able to Google a leaked list of fixes in the upcoming 10.5.3.

this looks amazing. i like the idea of browsing your friends' libraries across the web from the app itself... however i don't know when i would NEED this program, except maybe for insurance purposes. it's hard for me to justify $40 on it. i guess it boosts my ego a bit when i see all my shizzle in one spot like this. but yeah, is there anyone out there who uses Delicious Library on a daily basis? or at least weekly?
