Rumor: Mac OS X 10.5.3 will be released soon

Macsimum News is reporting that the long-awaited Mac OS X 10.5.3 is just about ready to go. Build 9D25 was released to developers at the end of last month with twenty-two fixes in place and no known issues. The most recent build, 9D34, went out with one fix and no new issues. That sounds good to us!

You can read the full release notes at Macsimum news, but items that caught our attention include
  1. Back To My Mac improvements (I'll settle for it working at all)
  2. Graphics driver performance fix
  3. Issue with Safari bookmarks and .Mac Mail account resolved
  4. Joining AirPort network after wake issue resolved
I've personally had trouble with that last one. With WWDC just a couple of weeks away, we assume this update will hit the streets sooner than later.

I do hope this update fixes a lot of stability problems. These occur prominently when using 802.1x wireless networks and using BT modem. These problems take down the whole system to a grind.. Also my MBP (august 2007) still has problems falling asleep (tried many things, most only work temporarily). 10.5.x Has been my most unstable/unreliable system since 10.1.. Quite disappointing and very annoying.

Apple has been pointing at MS because people have downgraded from Vista to XP. Well I know some people (three so far) who downgraded to Tiger. If this update doesn't fix anything I might do the same!

I just hope they fix Front Row so it will become useful: - subtitles (through Perian) do not work (you get a black screen), if you have a video on a remote but unavailable disk, Front Row takes minutes to load, it crashes a lot, scrolling through a list of videos makes the list jump erratically and TV Shows are not listed by season.

However, if I look at the list of fixes, I guess I am out of luck. Again.

Mmm... Graphics driver performance fix...

My iMac still is not always stable graphics-wise. Watching the Front Row now-playing flipping-coverart and song title turn into bloodred squares with static-like coloured lines here and there is disturbing. And it interferes with things like iMovie and iDVD. I hope software can fix it, because I don't have any patience to parting with my main Mac for a week or few...

This update sounds like it's going to be a good one.

I must admit I have zero problems with my MBP connecting to my Airport Extreme after sleep, but what I do experience every other day or so, is a kernel panic related to the sudden motion sensor. I really hope that's fixed.

And whatever happened to MyDreamApp?

I just hope they sort out the search results again. I really want my 'Sort by Date Modified' or 'by Size' back again. Somehow 'Last Opened', 'Kind" and "Name' is often not enough, when looking for things.

@Paul

This is a WIDELY reported problem w/late 2007 MacBooks...hardly confined to my little corner of the MacBook universe.

And a kernel panic that ONLY happens whenever I insert a DVD movie, and then DVD Player opens, is by its very nature software based...no?

For I never have the same result upon inserting a data DVD.

NEVER.

ONLY when a movie DVD is inserted, and DVD player fires up does the KP occur.

DEFINITELY a software based issue.

Google it. ;-)

Apple needs to fix this.

I have the late 2007 MacBook (2.2 GHz C2D) and haven't experienced a single kernel panic while watching DVD's - just saying.

Is it possible that you have multiple versions of DVD player, each with preferences that may confuse the other? That would be software allright, but not exactly Apple's fault. I just checked: I have 4 drives on my Duo 1 Ghz G4 and seem to have 5 versions of DVD player and a bunch of aliases. It could also be trouble, if any of those point the wrong way.
