iDMG

If you have ever created a DMG image using Disk Utility, you know how hard it can be. iDMG hopes to make this process easier. This application allows you to easily drag and drop files, applications, or whatever you choose onto iDMG, select a few options and hit the "Create button."

The only downside to the application is the many times you encounter the slow "I am working" message. Other than that, this application offers a bunch of options like encryption, custom icons, and multiple file systems. In addition, iDMG uses the Sparkle update framework and Growl notifications.

This application is available for download as freeware (donations accepted) from the developer's website.

Actually the tags need correcting: it's "Jamelo" and not "chamelo".

The app is very cool, easy and useful too! :-)

Also looks like AppZapper.

Am I the only one that finds it ironic that this app isn't distributed as a DMG?

Seriously? The only really annoying thing about disk image creation is making a custom background. From what I can tell, this doesn't even do that.

Get DropDMG, http://c-command.com/dropdmg/. By far the best DMG creation tool available.

You missed the point completely. These programs are a waste of disk space.

At least iDMG is free. DropDMG have the audacity to try to charge $20 for it!

Look, I'm one of the laziest computer users out here, and even I can use Disk Utility to create a DMG. It is right there-the icon that says Disk Image?

How would one go about creating a disk image of an application with all my preferences/settings included?

I have Azureus set up nicely and want to make a backup of it.

usually you can find preferences for your applications in your home directory's /Library folder.

I doubt Mr Cory has ever actually tried creating a Disk Image with Disk Utility, so he has no idea how easy it is...

Um... File -> New -> Disk Image, and set the same items you see here?

I'm completely at a loss as to who it is who needs these things. Really - what am I missing?

Software developers frequently use DMG files. They are also useful if you have something you want to encrypt.

the icon looks like it was lifted from SuperDuper! - i mean, it's really close.

Actually struck me as more similar to XCode's icon; SuperDuper's is more cartoony in my opinion, though it clearly drew inspiration from SuperDuper's icon, if nothing else.

Huh? How much easier can it get? ROM -- Read Operator's Mind?

That's my thought..

Click 'create disk image' in DU.
Click on image. Finder opens. Put files in.

Unless you have incredible difficulty using finder I can't see this app making it any easier.

Woah, I did not know it was as simple as using Disk Utility. I've had my Mac for a year and I'm still learning new things! :)
