Linkinus 1.3 brings split chats, embedded videos, and a performance boost

Linkinus is the preferred IRC client for a lot of our readers, I know (personally I tend towards Colloquy, but only because I'm a cheapskate and it's donationware), and they kindly dropped us a note to let us know they'd updated to version 1.3. The new build includes the ability to split chat windows (as seen above), in addition to a revamped UI, "major" performance upgrades, plaintext and Spotlight support for logging, and a whole slew of fun things to play around with, including, we're told, a "Whisper" style that will actually embed images, audio files, and YouTube and Google videos right into your chat windows (a la Campfire). Apparently IRC isn't just text anymore.

In fact, at $20 for all these features, Linkinus really is a steal for anyone who spends any amount of time in an IRC channel. Colloquy still does everything I need it to when I jump into IRC periodically, but if you want to chat like a pro in there, Linkinus is a great choice.

At least Colloquy supports dcc chat which is more than i can say for linkinus, and yet I am supposed to pay for linkinus!!! What are you talking about Travis Bell??? Do you work for linkinus?

Colloquy is fine for casual users like me or sometimes I open irssi for some old CLI goodness.

@Jannis Liedel thanks for that post I have just checked out LimeChat which seems an attractive slim client. I will follow the progress of this one.

thanks for the article, i didn't know this client, and although others are free, this one is the only one that really looks cool and "mac-ish".

So if i ever will have to use irc again ill buy this one.

Linkinus is just awesome! I used X-Chat Aqua, Colloguy and other but Linkinus blows those other clients away :-)

I personally think Linkinus is the best OS X IRC client. Sure, it costs $20 but our alternative is Colloquy, which while good, it's not great. Plus it just doesn't feel "finished".

Oh, and P.S. I have a Campfire theme you guys can grab here:

It supports embedded images and audio, although I've been lazy and haven't wrapped up video support.

I have been using Linkinus for a while now and love it. I love the new features that were integrated. Highly recommend this application you can't go wrong for $20.

There are also SDK's for styles and plug-ins.

Interesting, they seemed to have ripped me off.
This is the theme I build for Limechat:

Pretty lame I'd say.
