Apple posts Canon/Brother print driver updates
Yesterday Apple posted Brother Print Driver 1.1. Apple says that the update includes updates for "drivers for printers on your system." Apple also posted an updated for Canon printer users. Canon Print Driver 1.1 provides updates for "drivers for printers on your system." You can download these updates by opening Software Update (Apple menu > Software Update). Apple also notes that these driver updates will only be available if you have version 1.0 of the drivers installed already, the printer is connected to the computer, and a print queue is created.

Seems like kind of a ridiculous way for the OS to update the printer drivers. You have to have the print queue open and the printer hooked up?? Can't it just see that you have outdated drivers and update them?
Fail.
Not quite, you have to have the printer attached OR a print queue open. Having said that, the first time I tried to update my Brother printer driver through Software Update (with the printer attached) it crashed Software Update. Second time worked like a charm, although I haven't seen any noticeable changes yet.

June 06 2008 at 2:25 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI hope this fixes the bug that whenever Brother PrintCenter is open, this is repeated throughout my Console constantly:
"Unknown[16]: Client application bug: DNSServiceResolve(Brother032MFC-885CW._printer._tcp.local.) active for over two minutes. This places considerable burden on the network."
I will report back.
I wish they'd update the HP Laserjet 1010, Leopard broke the USB driver it so I have to use Jet Direct box now, it was fine in Tiger...

Any suggestions?
I just updated my Brother driver by printing a PDF to it, but I put the job on hold pretty quickly, and then did the software update. I should also say that this was over my wifi network, so yeah. :)
