What isn't making the cut from .Mac to MobileMe

On the surface MobileMe looks like a much better way to spend $99 than .Mac ever was, but there are a few .Mac features that are going to be discontinued. Say farewell to the following .Mac highlights:
- iCards: I don't remember the last time I sent an iCard, but I always liked the fact that I could.
- Web access to Bookmarks: you'll still be able to sync bookmarks across machines, but you will no longer be able to access them from a web browser (in case you wanted to check your bookmarks on some random machine).
- Panther support: this one isn't that big of a shock.
- .Mac slides: I'm not even sure what .Mac slides are, so I don't think I'll miss this feature much

I'm with you, Sam. Why take them away? I am looking forward to using my iPod touch with MobileMe.

I'm surprised homepage isn't on the list, It could really use a revamp, that's for sure...

Actually iCards are the only eCards I ever send. Sometimes with my own artwork. I just love their style as much as I love this .mac. within the email address.
I'm going to miss them. It's a shame they're not going to make it. It made Apple a bit more personal, too. These days, they seem a bit iPhoney to me.
And to be hones. I think the new me.com sounds cheap to me. Like yet another social networking site noone needs. mac.com meant something.

iCards was the only one I used, too. I liked the postmark from Cupertino. But the last card I sent was using the stationery in Mail. I'm guessing that's how Apple expects people to send cards now.

What about Homepage ... does that make the crossover?

God, I hope not. That's what you have iWeb for. Homepage makes no sense in the era of iWeb 2.0!

A photo I took has been used as an iCard for years now! Sigh. I'll miss being able to show off that my photography skills made it on apple.com.

First off, I don't see why they don't just keep iCards, I mean seriously. Lol. I don't use them or care, but, just keep them. The thing I am not too happy about is not being able to have bookmarks anymore. I used that ALL THE TIME in College when I was in a Lab. The ability to pull up all my Bookmarks was nice. Can't they just make Bookmarks a "Web App" in the new me.com? I mean really. That feels like a missing feature that there is no reason that they don't keep it.

Same here, not being able to access my bookmarks isn't all that good news. Then again, it could come at a later stage. Never too late to update :).

I know it's not exactly the same, but maybe http://del.icio.us/ or http://ma.gnolia.com/ will alleviate that - I for one don't use browser-based bookmarks for the sake of simplicity and instant sync between browsers - and it's free ;)
there is also a firefox extension called foxmarks, although not sure if it's safari compatible...

Yeah, I use the web bookmarks and iCards (with my own images) all the time. I love what MobileMe is bringing, but it makes me sad. Web access to your bookmarks is certainly a mobility feature -- let's hope it returns sometime soon!

.Mac slides were cool for the one thing they did (so far as I know)-- Export pics from iPhoto as .Mac slides then anyone subscribing to your .Mac slides in the OS X .Mac slides screensaver (or whatever it was called) gets their screensaver updated with the new pics.
Was nice for keeping my Dad's screensaver updated with fresh pics of his Granddaughter.

I've sent iCards for many special occasions. I hope they bring back this feature. I like that the date stamp is on there, so I can remember the iCard years later and think "Oh yea, I remember that."

I really will miss iCards. But the other features look very useful.

I really liked iCards. Maybe if everyone starts sending a lot before they die, Apple will reconsider.

Yeah, I'm wondering about 'Homepage' too. I've made quite a few web pages there over the years (mostly photo albums) and I'd (more than) hate to see them disappear. Looking at Google's "Sites" and how dead simple it is to create a web page on the fly, it seems like me.com should have something similar.
