Apple working on an "iSight HD"?

You can see the localization strings for "iSight HD" by opening the following file in either QuickLook (space bar) or by opening it in TextEdit: /System/Library/QuickTime/QuickTimeUSBVDCDigitizer.component/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Localizable.strings
Once you have the file opened, you can clearly see where Apple has placed the following bit of code:
/* Next Generation USB iSight */
"iSight HD" = "iSight HD";
We should note that while this code has been found, it doesn't necessarily mean that Apple will release a new iSight product, but this does give us hope.

According to a poster over at MacRumors (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=500737) this has been around since 10.4.10 in September of 2007.
If that's true, then, I wouldn't hold my breath.

September is not really _that_ long ago is it?

True or not- it's about time for apple to release an iSight, or a cinema display with a built in iSight.

Weren't the internal iSight cameras in the Macbook/MacbookPro/iMacs upgraded sometime in 2006/2007 to higher resolution cameras? Even though these cameras are internal, they still operate on the USB bus, and are technically USB cameras.

Isn’t it usually the other way around? Now that this code has been found, it does necessarily mean that Apple will NOT release a new iSight product…

Could someone tell me what language that is?
I'm learning JAVA and what I'm looking at:
"Built in-iSight" = "Apple USB Camera";
Seems like:
string literal = string literal
Which makes no sense! Thanks.

I assume since it's a localizable file, that the left hand string is the "search", and the right hand is the "replace". So, it's not a *programming language* per se, as much as it is a conversion sheet. Think of it as inches to centimeters.
"1 Inch" = "2.54 Centimeters"
Right?

OK
I guess that makes sense.
(order is restored once again!)

I think this is a non-story, old news. As far as I remember, that "HD" designation was for the new slightly-higher res iSights that arrived with laptops and iMacs a year ago. People got all excited about higher res iSights but they turned out to be no big deal.
Nothing to see here, move along.

What exactly does HD mean, what megapixel level is HD?? The iSight camera seems to be similar to the iPhone camera - you know nothing special, so could an HD equivalent be destined for the iPhone.

HD can mean any number of things. At the bare minimum is means the image has a vertical resolution of 720 pixels. By most definitions, it'd be 1280 vertical pixels.

You need insane amounts of processing power to record at 2MP. Not going to happen on the iPhone for a long long time.

@connorcam:
That's not true! My jailbroken iPhone has a great video+audio recorder on it that is promised to be released through the app store, you can check it out here: http://www.iphonevideorecorder.com/
(and no I am not affiliated with these people =)

The iSights are already HD. They're 2 mega-pixels or 4260 x 3200 pixels. 1080p HD is 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Not sure which iSight you're refering too. The one built into modern macs is 640x480 to all intents and purposes (though apparently is actually 1280x1024 but only Quartz Composer can use this). This is not HD :)
Assuming wikipedia is right of course... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISight

But it's not recording at 2MP
