A Mercedes-Benz for your iPhone
For those of you who want more than a leather case for your iPhone, how about a Mercedes-Benz luxury car? Mercedes-Benz is now shipping its new Apple iPhone Cradle in Germany. The cradle fits in the center console and connects to the the audio system of the car through an optionally available Media Interface or the iPod Interface Kit. You, the driver, then use the multi-function steering wheel controls in your sweet ride to control the phone and audio features of your iPhone. The vehicle's display shows you the iPhone's phone book or phone status, as well as the currently playing music track and artist. Your iPhone is charged up as you drive, and the antenna of your car boosts your phone reception.
The Apple iPhone Cradle is compatible with C, E, CLK, CLS, S, CL, SL, M and R-Class vehicles, and costs €249. Check with your dealer for availability of this accessory outside of Germany.

Why is it that Giz, Engadget, and TUAW all regurgitate the same stories? Where's the originality?

and why does it take a whole day to just regurgitate that story?

don't get me wrong. love tuaw, giz, engadget...read em every day, and will continue to do so, it just seems like some of the bloggers sit around monitoring other blogs and blogging about those blogs. sure, credit is given to their source, and the subject is right on the money (Apple products), there is just so much overlap...I guess that is to be expected though...

well, you know how when something newsworthy happens in the world and you can see it on CNN, BBC, and then read it in the paper the next day? well it's kind of like that.

Not everyone who reads TUAW reads those other blogs and vice versa.

I generally only read the engadget* franchise of blogs:
Engadget, Joystiq, TUAW, Switched etc...
Alot of things even overlap within these blogs but im glad especially for overlapping bonds outside the Engadget Franchise of blogs....Or the Web Logs inc. or w/e...
So yay for stealing entries and linking to them and etc...

That's very cool. Unfortunately, the iPod Interface Kit is close to $1500 installed. I was gonna get that for my wife's birthday last year but balked at the price (she got it for my Volvo and it was about $300 installed). However, the M-B iPod kit is the coolest one out there showing playlists and songs and artists, etc, on the nav screen.

BMW did a pretty good job too..

Ergonomically speaking, it looks like it'd be a pain in the neck to dock/undock this everytime you use your vehicle. It's placed almost 90 degrees from the center of the driver's field of vision. Not what I'd expect from MB.

BMW has had this for a long time... $500 option that gives you the iPod interface on the nav screen as well as leather cradle in the center console... phone is charged, reception boosted by car antenna, calls work through bluetooth...
This is nothing new.
