MacHeist sale for Parallels Desktop

If you've been looking to snag Parallels Desktop version 3.0, but don't want to pay the $79.99 associated with Parallels then a summer MacHeist bundle is just the thing. MacHeist is currently offering Parallels Desktop + Mac Pilot for only $49 (US).

Returning MacHeist customers receive a $10 discount, making the bundle only $39. That's a steal! In addition, the first 1000 customers to purchase the bundle will recieve a free "mystery application" (one that's an Apple award winner) which will be detailed on Friday.

Update: The rumor on the street is hinting at the "mystery application" to be either Coda or Lineform.

I'm pretty tempted to jump on this. I bought a Fusion license because I believed long-term it would be the best choice, but I've been using a *cough*extended*cough* trial of Parallels ever since I tried Fusion. Fusion has one feature missing that's preventing me from switching... Sharing Windows apps in OS X and vice-versa. Also, profile sharing in Parallels is very nice. It's much better to manage one desktop rather than two.

Fusion is for Mac users who need to use Windows every once in a while for specific things. Parallels is for Mac users who need to do a lot of work in Windows apps.

Allow me, Ed:

"A couple of months ago, we contacted you guys about a new bundle, designed primarily to attract new customers into the fold, and potentially power a push into retail stores.

But we found that the "best of" concept for the bundle was fizzling, and with no "Blockbuster" apps, the package seemed underwhelming for even new customers.

So we've gone and fixed this up, adding TextExpander ($29.95), VectorDesigner ($69.95) and SoundStudio (normally $79.99 on its own!) to the bundle. We think this has legs now. And of course, all of these apps will be sent to previous Retail Bundle customers as well! (SoundStudio when it is unlocked.)

There's tons more value, but of course our price point remains at the $49 price point.

So come by and check it all out at http://macheist.com, and help us spread the word. We hope you enjoy the changes we've made. And make sure to stick around, because there may be a new addition announced later in the sale. ;)"

I use Parallels since several months: no problem.

Btw, I tested the recent version of Fusion. After several trials, I abandonned... problems with Directx
For my personal needs (MS Access + some old wargames), Parallels is ok.

I recently downloaded VirtualBox: it seems to be a good (but light) alternative.

Fusion > Parallels

Parallels is slow and a resource hog. Fusion has better USB capabilities and is definitely waaaaaaaaay faster. Not to mention the tech support for Parallels SUCKS!

I use Fusion as well. Works very well, and for me the ability to virtualize more that just windows is what sold me. Unless parallels can do that, but I doubt it.

I can get Fusion for $39 at my university. I've tried Parallels a couple times and am not very impressed anymore after trying Fusion. Parallels still has yet to add 64-bit OS support. I already have Mac Pilot too (just paid the $10 to upgrade to 3.0). I think Parallels is losing the battle with new customers and I've known of a few people that jumped ship on it after buying it when it was the only solution of its kind.

Just take everything off from the URL after tuaw.com in 1Password. I used to have the same issue but figured out how to fix it.

I still use my Treo with Sprint, the only reason I have not switched is because I get a great deal. Sprint's Sero plan, only $30 a month and u get free web and txt a long with 500 minutes and extras. Lets see at&t beat that.

Sincerely doubt Coda being in there. Panic's never shown any interest in being in a MacHeist bundle, and I doubt they'd want to be a bonus app. Also, Coda's really more of a niche app.
