Mac 101: Safari tabs
Here's a quick tip for Safari users. As you know, tabbed browsing is best thing to happen to the 'net since The Tron Guy. Keyboard jockeys create new tabs by pressing Command-T. But there are a few of you who dislike releasing the mouse, even for a second. You folks can simply double-click the grey area next to a tab to create a new one. Everybody wins!

Is this only a Safari 3.1 feature? Doesn't work with Safari 3.0.4.

Yes, this was added in Safari 3.1. I wrote about it here http://borderlinefantastic.com/will-i-become-a-safari-user/

I think you mean ctrl-doubleclick... at least that's what works with 10.4.x. Maybe it's different in Leopard.

Plain double-click works for me on Safari 3.1.1 and 10.4.11.

You can do the same with Camino 1.6.1!

I've always used that... except one time when i upgraded to Safari 3.0 and that stopped working... until the new version of Saft went available...
So at least in Tiger (never tried it on Leopard), you need saft for this.

Clicking on my mouse-wheel opens a link in a new tab in Safari. Makes browsing a breeze.

A Safari-tab question.
The ONLY reason I don't use Safari is that there doesn't seem to be an option to "open links in a new tab", the way you can in firefox.
Since I use bloglines for 99% of my web surfing, I like opening all the links in a single window, and I hate having tons of windows open.
Is there a way around this annoying Safari omission?

This also can be done in Firefox by either double clicking the same area or by right clicking anywhere in the tabs area and selecting New Tab from the context menu.

Apple + Click a link to open it in a new tab.
Doesn't work with a couple websites, but you can always right-click the link and open it in a tab that way too.

On Windows Safari at least, this only works if you already have two tabs open.
