PocketMac Ringtone Studio for iPhone
While the $14.95 application doesn't do anything that you can't already do with GarageBand and a little bit of knowledge, it does make creation of custom iPhone ringtones a lot easier. You can drag any unprotected music or QuickTime movie file to PocketMac Ringtone Studio, select a 30-second bit for the ringtone, and then export the ringtone into the iTunes "Ringtones" folder. The video above shows the entire process, along with a strange "jazz and random banging on the piano" soundtrack.
There are some other alternatives available for creating your own ringtones:
- Rogue Amoeba's MakeiPhoneRingtone (free)
- Ambrosia Software's iToner (free to try, $15 to buy)

How do you use existing songs and make custom ringtones with GarageBand anyway?

This is how it is done with "original" recordings (i.e. your own material):

This video somehow manages to suck all of the fun and joy out of ringtones. Or, maybe I'm just being exceptionally ADD this morning - lol

Well I use http://nakko.com for creating my iPhone ringtones. Anyone else familiar with Nakko.com? $14.95 is a lot of money compared to a free website ;-)

I make my ringtones with garage band or with MakeiPhoneRingtone (Mac) or with iDemocracy (Windows). All free options.

You can create custom ring tones through ITUNES!!! For free!!! That $15 could pay for one month of the rate increase for the iPhone 3G :-)

What an odd opinion to shoehorn into a quick review. "Randon banging," eh? Guess you don't know squat about jazz, do you? And what do you know of the folks who read this blog. Apparently, not enough.
I'd like to see your iTunes Library, Mr. Sande. Might be fun to make snide remarks about some of the dumabass music you've collected, too.

Hey, I just live for abuse from commenters like yourself. Who was saying anything about YOUR iTunes Library anyway? I was just commenting that I thought their choice of background music for this video was strange. And if you were to look at MY iTunes Library, you'd find that it's full of jazz from the 1930's to the present. I also have a huge collection of blues, rock, and classical.

Plenty of free ringtones and alarmtones on the net too. I like the ones at http://www.iphoneringtones.ca because they're not all songs! I don't want my phone to ring like the radio!! They should call those songtones!
