MobileMe launch date set: July 9th at 6 p.m. PT

Apple has just updated the .Mac status page with the date/time of the .Mac to MobileMe switch. So, for those of you wondering when Apple might start the switch will not have to wonder any longer. July 9th from 6 p.m. until 12 a.m. PT is the scheduled date and time.

Apple says that during the switch, users will be "unable to access www.mac.com or any .Mac services ... with the exception of .Mac Mail accessed via a desktop application, iPhone, or iPod touch."

According to Apple, "MobileMe will be available as soon as possible during this maintenance window." Be sure to stay tuned to TUAW for the latest on the .Mac to MobileMe switch.

Thanks, Andy and Barry!

No MobileMe for me, as long as it seems they give out your password (well, your login) to anyone who asks:

How did we miss the big "Tuesday 9" calendar icon?? This was a dead giveaway on the release date.

So besides Exchange's ActiveSync or Mobile Me, is any other type of account going to be SOL with regards to push?

Like, is there any possibility that GMail's IMAP connection could ever be made a 'push' connection, or would I pretty much have to just sign up for Mobile Me and have Gmail forward all of my email to Mobile Me so I can receive it on the phone?

The live calendar syncing is indeed spiffy, and though I am using Busy Sync right now to keep my Google Calendar / iCal aligned, I agree with Justin Williams that this is way better than having to tether my phone to my laptop to update.

I'm about to get an iPod Touch for the first time, and I would really like an updated version (camera, BT, etc.) at the same price points!

The @me accounts are live in the AIM network. If you set up a new account in ichat (using the AIM screen name section, not .mac)

I'm actually looking forward to this more than the iPhone 3G. Not having to rely on syncing my iPhone to update my calendar is worth the price of admission alone.

I just logged into my ".Mac" account (using "www.mac.com", not "www.me.com").

I've never created a webpage for this account yet, so on the left side of the screen it offers "Share your words and pictures - create a web page". When I click on the little arrow right next to that text, it brings me to a page that says:

".Mac will soon be MobileMe"

The address bar shows "http://www.apple.com'dotmac/webgallery.html".

So, it seems things are somewhat 'broken' already on .Mac during the transition.
