MobileMe now really, truly up? No.
ileMe has been a rockier road than a Baskin-Robbins convention in the same hotel as a Weight Watchers conference. With .Mac services (including webmail, near and dear to my travelin' heart) down most of the day, all we could do was commiserate with the scores of inbound tip emails and eagerly hit the "refresh" button until the circumstances changed.Looks like we made it, though -- as of 7 pm ET it seems that most Me.com services are up and running from the web side (sync status TBD). Enjoy the cloudy goodness, if you will.... ulp, now it's down again. Y'know, if the idea behind your new service offering is "Exchange for the rest of us," perhaps the first order of business ought to be ensuring some sort of baseline SLA, or an uptime expectation? The last thing Apple needs is the reliability reputation of some other popular communications service...
Update: Per Apple's support status page for .Mac, all the back-end services should be running as of 2 am ET, but the web UI is still not available and there is no ETA. If you're depending on .Mac webmail from the road, may I suggest a POP download into another (free) email service.

Gosh, seems to me that it IS "Exchange for the rest of us." It's certainly duplicating Exchange reliability.

While there is some humor using the phrase "Exchange for the rest of us", in reality (in my experience), Exchange doesn't have serious downtime issues.
We use it at work. There are infrequent outages that don't last too long. Perhaps that's because we have a good IT department that keeps on top of the system (and does frequent backups).
If you truly see this sort of outage (a frickin' *day*??) with Exchange, perhaps you need a better IT group???

Some Microsoft products suck, but Exchange isn't one of them. I've been an Exchange admin for over a decade. It's reliable. If you have excessive downtime then you either have crap hardware or a poor support staff.

Here is how you can stay up to date with the mac.com and me.com's page status:
jacklinkproductions.com/refresher.html
this page will refresh mac.com and me.com in the same window every 5 seconds. (idk... but apple might kill me for this.)

That's really cool. :)
I dunno, this stuff better be all figured out by tomorrow for the iPhone 3G launch. This is just getting annoying.

This sounds exactly like the kind of thing that's keeping the stress up to levels they can't cope with and is keeping the service down.

Assuming Apple released the iPhone 2.0 firmware prior to the launch of the MobileMe service, then I'd say an app constantly showing the status of this puppy would prove quite amusing no?

HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO WAIT???
I'm in IT for a newspaper, if we did this crap we would be out the door so fast. you get the system up then switch it over, and I don't believe we pay for this... And so much for you privacy during communicating over US telecoms, not impressed America...

I'll bet somebody is in big trouble...
"What do you mean you didn't bother load testing?" :)

They've at least put a statement up now:
"The MobileMe transition is underway but is taking longer than expected. Please refer to the official System Status to the right for current information on the availability of MobileMe services. We apologize for any inconvenience."
and in the status:
"With the exception of the MobileMe web apps, all of the following services are now available: Mail, iDisk, Sync, iChat, Back to My Mac, and all published pages including Galleries and iWeb sites. The MobileMe web apps will be available as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you need to send and receive mail, please use the desktop email application on your Mac, PC, iPhone or iPod touch.
We apologize for any inconvenience."

I don't get that. My web galleries are STILL down. They just redirect to the MobileMe ad page like everything else.
Also, maybe that message should have gone up at around 2am PT, when they thought they would be done. I want to know exactly what's going on. Maybe it's a problem expanding everyone's accounts to 20 gigs.

My gallery also just goes to the http://www.apple.com/mobileme/ page. Using either "gallery.mac.com/my_username" or "gallery.me.com/my_username".
BTW, when people say things 'work' for them, it would be nice if they said exactly what does work - me.com, mac.com, direct from their Mac mail/idisk/sync app, MobileMe System Prefs on their Mac, etc.

Kinda ridiculous... yeah, e-mail works, but sorry... none of the other things they say are up are actually working. My iDisk hasn't been available since last night.

My push email had been working all day, even pushing email forwarded to my me.com address from my gmail address.
It's no longer pushing.

Gosh I would totally hate to be in the IT dept for Apple today. A planned outage that was originally slated to be 6 hours became 18? If this happened at Wall Street, people would be fired!!

Cloudy with intermittent sun. Forecast for rest of week, cloudy with brief periods of sun/connectivity.
Production is the best test environment.

I don't have an iPhone, I just want my .Mac back. Sick of my local iDisk & sync not working.
MobileMe better kick ass when it finally gets working.
