First Look: Tap Tap Revenge
The last time we covered Tap Tap Revenge, the AppStore hadn't yet been released. Now that we've been able to get a hands-on with the app, let's take a new look at TTR by Tapulous. When you first launch this application, you get a fun interface that is very straightforward. The game play is very simple; just tap along to the beat of the song playing. The red, green and blue colored dots will guide you. There are four difficulty levels: easy, medium, hard, and extreme. Some levels in TTR add in "shakes" that make you shake the iPhone to the left, middle or right to complete the beat (you can turn this feature off in the options). While TTR has the ability to download additional songs, there are currently no new songs available to download (hopefully this will change soon, as you get tired of the same four songs).
In addition to scoring locally, TTR can also interface with an online scoreboard complete with a profile picture. You can also participate in the TTR tournaments for a chance to win a $25 iTunes gift certificate.
Tap Tap Revenge is available for free from the AppStore, so download this amazing application and get your tapping on today!

It's unbelievable they're giving this away for free!
I guess there are only four songs included now so that the app stayed under 10 MB?

This is awesome and very addicting. The tournament is cool and we're going to be using TTR for the beach parties this weekend. Hope there's a new release that lets us put our own songs. Even willing to pay for that version. Rockin to TTR.

It was better when it was Tap Tap Revolution - Why? because you could make beats to your own iTunes library and play songs tapped out by other users. I dont want to play their stupid songs, I want to play songs I know.
I do have to admit that this is much more stable and has much better gameplay, but the ability to play real music was key to the game being good. The fact that it's missing in the app store release is laaaammme.

Don't blame the developers on that, blame Apple and the RIAA. Accessing the iTunes library on the iPhone/Touch is not allowed in the SDK.

i guessed that was the reason, but.... laaaammmee.

This is one of the finest non-Apple iPhone/iPod Touch apps out there right now.
It works properly, has a good level of difficulty, takes advantage of the unique platform and it isn't ugly like so many of the other apps.
This team really cares about the whole package.

I love it, but there's one thing. Because of my big thumbs, I ca't see clearly if I hit the bubble right or not. If the "explosion" was a bit bigger, I think it would be better.

I could be wrong, but I think you can press anywhere under the line to hit the note on rhythm.

Remember we are dealing with AT&T here, I have No Service in my front yard in the middle of a large suburban area. Its not uncommon, matter of fact, it is fairly common. Not to mention the fact we are 3G-less here. There is no excuse, Verizon and Sprint has 5 bars in my yard and 3G services too boot.

No Service? Nice job.

This would be better if the "Extreme" level song wasn't ridiculously easy. :(

My only issue was that this app didn't seem to perform too well. The animation was slightly choppy (especially when playing a two-player game) which is odd since games like Cro-Mag Rally and Super Monkey Ball seem much more demanding. But, hey, Tap Tap Revolution is free so it is silly to complain about such things.
Aside from the performance issues, Tap Tap Revolution is very cleverly designed. The interface was intuitive and the game play addictive. It also makes great use of the tall iPhone screen during two-player games.
Not perfect, but definitely recommended!

The fact that you can't play your own songs sure is a bummer, and I dont see a workaround to that ever. I just hope they can get some more songs out. I really don't mind the fact I can't use my songs if I have a lot to choose from. Either way, its been cool to watch this app mature over really the last year. As someone stated, very clean and well done, you can tell they care about the app, and the fact it is free shows they aren't just throwing crap together to make money. Those are the kinds of developers I like to see on the App Store. Either way, I would have gladly paid for this App, Free sure surprised me.
