iPod touch 2.0 update now for sale, for real

Blessed are the patient, for they shall pay $9.95 (or $10.79, with sales tax depending on your billing address) and download the iPod touch 2.0 Software Update (store link), and yea they shall wait some 20 to 30 minutes for the 226 MB of new firmware to descend from the high Akamai and bestow App Store access upon them. In point of fact, also blessed are the impatient who remained awake and clicked the "Upgrade" button every five minutes up until 12 am ET, which is about when everything started to get moving.
Downloading it now, gallery below, first impressions to come. We have a warning from reader Paul that his upgrade to 2.0 (on an iPhone first-gen, not a touch) nuked his Address Book data, so be sure to back up before you upgrade your devices. We also have a tip from Cody that Canadian would-be buyers of the 2.0 update and App Store goodies must use a credit card; iTunes gift cards are not working to place the order.
Note that there is a new SLA accompanying this upgrade, as one might expect (PDF here). If you're hungry for more as you wait for your upgrade to download and run, you can browse the list of iPod touch-compatible apps or check out our First Looks so far.
Update: Installed, resynced and bought some apps -- all working as expected except for Mail, which is hanging on start and kicking back to the main screen. Going to try wiping it down and resyncing if I can. A note to the commenters who are suggesting pulling a torrent of the new firmware instead of coughing up the $10... c'mon, are you going to risk your $300 iPod's health on a pirated software update? It's $10. Give up cigarettes or something.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

"Woke up. Fell out of bed. Dragged a comb across my head and ran the iPod Touch update at 3:30am"
Now if we could just get the Beatles in the iTunes Store!
Still waiting for 12GB of music and videos to be restored but process seems fine.

I downloaded elsewhere. I'm happy to pay the $10, and will. But I couldn't wait.
I'm happy with it. Love the Remote. But my imap mail folders seem to scroll kind of jerky, and fonts don't seem to render as quickly on some web pages.

Oh come on, I cant pay for the update, I have no job! I just had to use pirated firmware... but it did take about an hour and a half to download.

I paid $20 for the last update, while it was cool I didn't want to pay the $9 this time. I just went to piratebay.org earlier today and picked it up.
That said it's so friggen awesome I'm buying an iphone now. The apps available are really really amazing, and it is so worth it I think to get the real deal.
Just a tip for those installing the apps. A lot of time when you are trying to run an application intended for the iphone (like loopt) you can use a regular phone for the setup and then the touch will work pretty much perfectly.

Hit the "Upgrade" button like an overcaffeinated lab rat since yesterday. Couldn't believe it when it actually went through earlier today!
BTW, "iTunes gift cards are not working to place the order" may be true, but I was able to use an existing iTunes balance to pay for the upgrade. Perhaps people with gift cards should redeem them then use the balance to pay. Just a thought.

The best way to get the upgrade without feeling the pain of paying more $$? Sell your old crap on eBay, with the funds going into your PayPal acct., then set your iTunes Store acct. to use PayPal as it's source of payment. (There's directions on how to do this on the Apple site) You've now cleared out your closet and have iTouch 2.0... not a bad deal.

This is how I finance all my technology related purchases. Salary goes to grown-up things like paying down the mortgage faster; selling junk pays for my gadget habit. :)

Took me an hour or two to put all my music back on my iPod (uuuuuugh), but everything's working awesome and well worth trading the jailbreak for official apps (at least for now). AOL Radio means I can stream all my favorite local CBS radio stations and WeatherBug is insanely awesome.
The only thing I miss is no colloQ (someone make an IRC app for AppStore!) and the soon to come Last.fm app: http://www.vimeo.com/1314214 (hopefully it actually srobbles played music like MobileScrobbler)

Ha! Personally, I find anything funny if it's written as a commandment...or whatever the "blessed are thou" style is called.

That would be the Sermon on the Mount. The "blessed are the..." part is called the Beatitudes.
I'm not Christian but I think it's pretty hep that Jesus was a Beat poet.

How much does it cost for countries that don't usually have an iTunes store (And now they have)?
Since I don't own a touch I can't check

If you don't have a touch I would suggest waiting until they start shipping touches with the software.

It doesn't work for me. I can restore to 1.1.4 on another computer, but if I try to update to 2.0 on any computer (windows or mac) it begins the restore process and then says: Unknown error has occurred (6). Tried many things. Been a pretty bad experience! The current incarnation of 2.0 just doesn't seem to like my iPod Touch.
