Apple releases HP Printer Driver update 1.1
Apple just released an update for HP Printer support in Mac OS X. The update weighs in at a whopping 405.1 MBs and includes "latest drivers for printers you have used on your system."In order to download the update via Software Update (Apple menu > Software Update), you must have the affected printer connected to your computer, or have a print queue already setup. You can also download the installer package from the Apple Support downloads site. This software works on Macs running OS X 10.5.3 or higher.
Thanks, Ed!

Gee, why don't we have a news story like "Apple employee shows up to work today" ..
Because that wouldn't be newsworthy.
Neither is this.

Hence the reason why I don't pay much attention to TUAW unless I'm sure something useful is coming up - too much crap like this post, and not enough real content :/

Actually, for those of us who haven't been able to print for a couple months, this is news. Something about the 10.5.2 update did something to HP printers.

when will driver manufacturers realize that users don't usually need compatability with EVERY HP printer made since 1965

I agree with Ben. They should only include the drivers for printers owned and used by Ben.

"The HP Printer Driver Update includes the latest drivers for printers you have used on your system."
It's only for the HP printers you have saved in your printer list. That's why some people are getting different file sizes. Mine was only 90.0MB for 3 HP printers, a far cry from the 450.1MB mentioned in the article.

its always nice to have ALL bases covered!

I use the same Printer as Ben - I am willing to bet its a 1012.
Ben? Am I right?

Si: 103MB for 1 HP printer?
anthony said 9:59PM on 7-15-2008
Don't know how big mine was but it showed up automatically without having any printer hooked up or anything in my cue. Don't think I've printed to an HP in at least 6 months.

only 52.3 mb for me...it seems that it really does detect which printer you have and download just what you need...
