Apple releases HP Printer Driver update 1.1

Apple just released an update for HP Printer support in Mac OS X. The update weighs in at a whopping 405.1 MBs and includes "latest drivers for printers you have used on your system."

In order to download the update via Software Update (Apple menu > Software Update), you must have the affected printer connected to your computer, or have a print queue already setup. You can also download the installer package from the Apple Support downloads site. This software works on Macs running OS X 10.5.3 or higher.

Thanks, Ed!

Well, it certainly killed printing to the 4050 we have here...

"/Library/Printers/hp/filter/hpPostProcessing.bundle/Contents/MacOS/hpPostProcessing failed"

I've tried rebooting, etc. finally cnaged to a "generic postscript driver", hey it works. no more duplexing/multiple trays, but at least it prints...

I would like Apple to release some drivers for the Canon MF4150 printer; or for any multifunction 4000 series printer from Canon.

I could use some advice since I'm relatively new to the Mac. I have an HP AIO that I've been using since I bought my Mac and had to install the HP OSX software to enable all the features.

When I run Software Update, no new HP drivers are available for that Mac.

However, the Mac I bought for my wife doesn't have the HP software installed because she didn't need all the extras so it's using the native OSX drivers. Her Mac did find and download the update.

Is this something I should be concerned about or does it sound like both Macs are operating as they should. I don't want to manually download the HP driver update for my iMac and force an update, but also don't like the idea of not having the most current updates.

Thoughts...?

I did not get any updates either, and I use multiple HP printers. I would imagine that this is because I too have installed the drivers on the CD to get the full use of the machine and that my system is already up-to-date. I think HP installs its own software update that checks every now and then too.

Thanks for the comment; I'm sure you are right.

If I hadn't become such a Mac-Head, I wouldn't be reading this blog and thus would have been blissfully ignorant that others had gotten an update that my Mac didn't think I needed.

So, clearly, it's TUAW's fault :-P

I wonder what happens if I plug in an affected printer *after* installing this update?

Hm, my mistake - guess it was version 1.1 from June 5. Wonder why it didn't show up until now, I use that printer nearly every day... carry on...
