First Look: Bloomberg
I'm the first to admit that I am no financial whiz. I know very little about stocks, bonds, and money in general (I'm a blogger after all), however, I do know a thing or two about iPhone apps. Imagine my surprise that one of my favorite iPhone apps is the Bloomberg app (shocking, I know!).Bloomberg, in case you aren't aware, is one of the leading sources of financial news. The company's reputation was built upon the Bloomberg Terminal, which is leased to traders, libraries, and the like for a high monthly fee. The thinking is that by having a wealth of knowledge about the market at your fingertips the terminal will pay for itself.
The Bloomberg app, in stark contrast, is free but does still offer you a deep look into your stocks. You can keep track of your portfolio, see news related to the companies you invest in, and get lots of performance data at a glance.
Take a look at our gallery to see what this app has to offer (keep in mind that I took these screenshots last week, so the stock info is out of date).

From what I can tell, Bloomberg's stock tracker is 20 minutes delayed (similar to the current Stock widget on the iPhone)
You can make a webclip of Google Finance of your own portfolio, that gives you real time stock quotes.

Does anyone know if this has streaming quotes?

Funny that previous comment wasn't there when I posted my question.

I wonder if they've got any plans to make Bloomberg Anywhere or something like it for the iPhone. That would be pretty awesome.

If you tap Edit onthe stock list it looks like there's an option to enter the number of shares that you own, but I don't see that being used anywhere. Am I missing something?

If you click current value (of the underlying security) button, you can toggle between percentage change, portfolio worth and day gain/loss.
I hope they make it a more comprehensive portfolio manager soon, like the one on bloomberg.com

Does anyone know if Bloomberg tracks currency exhanges quotes? I use the native Stocks program to track exchange rates using the Yahoo! quotes (USDEUR=X, for example, for US Dollar to Euro exchanges), and I'd like to do the same with Bloomberg, but I can't figure out the quote code.

the application has currency exchange build in, you don't need to add any quotes.
just follow-
under the "market" tab, on the top left corner you will see the "markets" button, click it and then you can choose "currencies".
enjoy

Bloomberg is one of my favourite free apps!
It looks like there is more to come from them, as it just would make sense (a pro version or something)
As a user of the Bloomberg Professional Service (yes its horribly expensive!), i'd love to see something like Bloomberg Anywhere on my iPhone.

My company has several users who subscribe to the Bloomberg Anywhere service, and I just got confirmation from our Bloomberg Sales contact that indeed Bloomberg is working on a Pro App for the iPhone, that will match the features of the Blackberry client.
No ETA yet, though.

I really want to like this app. But it's not very iPhone friendly. A lot of the news article links have tables, but you can't zoom in to read them, and the color scheme makes it even less readable.

I don't know, they need a way to automatically enter my stocks through some open ended system, i.e. enter your Google password and we'll read the info from Google. I am NOT going to enter all my info just to have the data wiped when the app updates itself or the phone is wiped. THINK, application builders.
