First Look: SodaSnap Instant Postcards
Missing iCards? Well, SodaSnap hopes to fill the missing hole with their postcards for the iPhone. "SodaSnap Instant Postcards" is a a free application that does just that: creates postcards on-the-go. Just shoot a picture with your iPhone and SodaSnap lets you send it off as an e-mail postcard. You can choose a picture that is saved in your "Photos" library which allow folks with an iPod touch in on the fun.
The best part of this iPhone application is that it just works, all without creating a pesky account with some company you've never heard of. That being said, your message is clearly passed through SodaSnap's servers, so you might want to be careful of what you write (such as personal information, etc.). SodaSnap provides great access to the address book for picking recipients. Overall, this is a fun application and the results are pretty good for a free application.
SodaSnap Instant Postcards is a free download from the iTunes App Store. Get a detailed look at SodaSnap before downloading by looking at our gallery of screenshots.

A couple interesting points not in the article. The email sent includes a link to a google map of where you where when you sent the email. And, you get a copy of the email that has a banner ad in it, most likely how the author is paying for the service. I don't mind either, but users should know that going in.

thanks for the tip. i for one was surprised when apple removed iCards. I actually used them and thought it was one of the few things that made going to .mac worth the 99/year.

when you're not sending from your phone, don't forget about Mail.app's built in stationary. kinda like icards.

Just downloaded the App and tried to use it, one minor problem it does not let you use email addresses with a "." in. So if you are like me with 98% of your contacts using the format forename.surname for your emails this app will not work, you will just get the error message "the format of your email address in the Sodasnap setting is not correct".
I do worry about the quality of Apps currently being uploaded to the Apps Store, this is a really basic error that shows the SodaSnap app has not been fully tested before uploading. Looks like nobody at Apple, tries the apps before approving.

An updated version that fixes the email validation issue has already been submitted to Apple and is awaiting approval! Hopefully Apple will approve it soon!~

I love this app. It is my substitute for MMS.

There is no substitute for MMS until you have an application where you don't have to teach your luddite friends to send to your email instead of your phone number. This may be a fine workaround to the lack of MMS, but it's half a workaround, and just a workaround.

I can't find it in the U.S. store either. I've noticed this happening on and off at the App Store—apps disappear then reappear with no rhyme or reason.

Oddly enough, Doesn't MMS work exactly like email in other technical ways? When I had a phone that had MMS, I had an email address associated with my phone on the carriers servers.
This is why MMS is not on iPhone, it is because needs to be served by carrier. And carriers charge for SMS because they allow you to talk to a competitors network, and they do not want people on other carriers.
