Bricksmith 2.0
It has been awhile since I posted about Bricksmith, it looks like Allen Smith hasn't spent all his time pining for more TUAW coverage. Nay! He has been working on Bricksmith 2.0, which brings some new features to this open source Lego modeling app. The renderings have been improved, part search has been beefed up, and new addition to the Help file will aid those looking to create nifty models. My favorite part of this app has to be the Minifig generator (which I used to create the image that accompanies this post). You can use it to create more aesthetically pleasing minifigs, to be sure, but this guy has got character I tells ya.
Bricksmith is free, but if you find yourself using it often a donation would be nice.

The biggest new feature in Bricksmith 2 is arguably the ability to move pieces by dragging them with the mouse. Look in the preferences for a few different dragging modes.

How about a post on this: "AOL is apparently telling some of news blogs under its wing to cut back on posts in order to trim down its budgets. The sites...include...The Unofficial Apple Weblog. All have been asked to stop posting content until July 31, according to paidConent.org."

Very cool, i was looking for something like this for a long time, because at www.brickcommander.com a guy built many startrek, and as good as every Battletech/Mechwarrior Model there is out of Lego and even providing the files, that i could just open in a crappy program running only on windows via bootcamp.
COOL THING !
also check out www.brickcommander.com its really cool, that guy managed to build most of the mechs with only 2-8 percent of lego-knobs looking out, making the stuff look way more professional than most other builts.

Hey FoundInTheFlood, don't miss this list of Mac compatible LDraw software:
http://ldraw.org/wiki/index.php/Macintosh_compatible_LDraw_software
Keep an eye on LDView and LPub, too - usable Mac versions are already available, but I understand they are still being actively developed. It's a good time to be a Mac user with an interest in LEGO!

I've been using Bricksmith daily to develop some complicated models I want to build afterwards, and I'm very pleased there's a 2.0 coming. 1.0 is great, but there's a lot of functionality that needs to be added.
