Apple readies 10.5.5 developer seed
AppeInsider is reporting that developers may receive their seeds of Mac OS X 10.5.5 as soon as this weekend, calling it a "maintenance and security update." They go on to say that the 10.5.5 Leopard update could provide support for those new notebooks we've been hearing about. Apple released their last update (10.5.4) on June 30th. 10.5.4 included bug fixes and provided the framework for Apple's MobileMe webservice.

I have some sort of problem which is similar to yours which when I unplug the Macbook Pro from its charger, the fps drops from whatever it was before to 14-17fps.
I didn't have this problem before though, so I highly doubt it's hardware related. Any ideas?

It is a driver issue. With the release of 10.5.3, they changed the drivers to fix the MacBook bugs but ended-up introducing bugs with our hardware. I've personally used the program that is mentioned by the blue post and haven't had any fps issues since I downgraded my drivers to the 10.5.2 ones.
Of course this is considered a hack, so be prepared for potential side effects (again, I haven't had any).
Upgrade- the process of removing old bugs and replacing them with new ones.
Hopefully, some bug fixes to MobileMess are in order.
And yes, I know that MobileMe is a web service and not a part of Mac OS X. But because MobileMe has many hooks into Mac OS X, I hope the update helps with some of the syncing issues.
