iUseThis: iPhone app popularity ratings
iUseThis.com's new iPhone app ratings pages let you browse for software based on other user's recommendations. It's basically a Digg for iPhone apps. It offers new releases, new apps, top apps and reviews. Just started, the site is building up steam and users. When last I checked, it still had fewer than 200 apps listed. But given the growth of the iPhone application space, this site shows early promise should it manage to attract a large enough user base. Pop on by and see whether it suits your needs.

Nice find Erica, thanks! I've come to realize that actually trying to find useful apps on the store is a waste of time. I try to rely on word of mouth from friends and other users.
For an example of why I no longer browse the store, look in TUAW's Tip line for what I just sent you.

Just saw this $999.99 app in iTunes!! This should be getting popular even if nobody buys it.

The problem with this site is that the most popular apps stay at the top unlike the continuous refresh of Digg's front page throug the day. Also, there isn't a Top 24 hrs or Top in Week. This is kind of the same problem Digg has with their podcast section. The most popular doesn't refresh. Items at the top get reinforce their position because they're most visible.

Buddy:
iusethis' frontpage actually shows the newest releases, not the most used apps of all time.
We also have two different pages doing ranking: top and popular.
Top displays the all-time most used apps.
Popular displays the current most popular apps.
The reason for these being very similar now, is because of the lack of history data on the iphone version.
If you look at http://osx.iusethis.com/popular compared to http://osx.iusethis.com/top you will see a big difference in what you see.
We are still working on this and certainly haven't nailed it yet, but we are aware of the issues and working hard towards fixing it.

Site seems dificult to find things...would much prefer to use the Staff Favorites or Top Apps features on iTunes.
