Beta Beat: Glims for Safari

If you're looking for a Safari plugin with the usefulness of Inquisitor and then some, then look no further than Glims for Safari. This (currently in beta) plugin gives you the same search functionality as Inquisitor, plus some extra and useful features like full screen viewing.

Actually, the current feature list is quite impressive for this free little plugin:
  • Generates thumbnails for Google/Yahoo search results
  • Full screen browsing
  • Add favicon to tab labels
  • "Undo close tab" option
  • Reopen last Safari session on start
  • Auto-close download window
  • Set focus on the search field on opening a new window
  • Adds max window size for window resizing
Glims does take a cue from Inquisitor's revenue plan as the developers get a referral fee for Amazon links in searches. Overall, Glims looks like a good alternative to Inquisitor, and hey, it's free! You can download beta 6 of Glims from the developer's website.

wow this really works well. I have now deleted saft and safari is running noticeably faster with this light 800kb plugin. good find! offers similar if not faster functionality than inquisitor. and yes, command-z for undoing closed tabs ftw ;)

I thought Inquisitor was now owned by Yahoo (as reported here http://www.tuaw.com/tag/Inquisitor ) so thus doesn't have any Amazon revenue plan anymore?

It doesn't *actually* provide the same search functionality, Cory.

For a start, you can't add your own search engines to the list and the search suggestion feature acts quite differently… Using Inquisitor, clicking a suggestion changes the results in the search field to mirror your selection - including changing the top 6 sites, whereas in Glims it simply takes you to the Google search results for the selection.

I prefer Inquisitor's search functionality over Glims. That said, Glims does offer extra features (not search related!) such as maximising the screen, a full-screen view and favicons on your tabs. And you disable the search options.
