First Look: EccoNote
EccoNote is a nice little free audio recording app - one of many similar recorders available in the App Store.I use the word "little" deliberately, because EccoNote is very simple. In a good way. You can record your audio notes, you can play them back, and that's about it. There are no settings to mess with. The audio quality is very good and the controls nice and obvious.
The only odd thing is that the developer's web site, as listed on the App Store, does not appear to exist (at least not as I'm writing this). Their notes in the App Store description field say that they plan to add an email-to-contacts feature within the next month, something I hope they succeed with because that would be very useful.
As I said at the top, there are many other voice recorder apps available. Some for free, some for a little money. I've tried a few (not all) and this is one I like best so far. Your opinions of Ecco and its rivals would be welcomed in the comments.

I would like it a lot, and be willing to pay up to $5 for an app that simply:
1. Has a gorgeous UI.
2. Records audio at a reasonable quality, lets you play it back.
3. Has some way of exporting that audio to my Mac.
This seems to fail at 1 and 3. :(

TUAW should review more apps. I'm afraid to waste $0.99-$9.99 on "iffy" apps that kinda, sorta appeal to me.

I don't like this one due to the fact that you can't skip around in a recording after you've recorded it. You can only play back the entire recording without any VCR-like controls.
So far, YouNote is my favorite since it gives me all types of note-taking options in one simple app. The only set back is that you can't record unlimited amounts of audio, but oh well.

Is there a time limit to how long an individual recording can be?

No. Well, it can only be as big as the amount of free space left on your iPhone.

Is there a voice recording app that will use voice recognition on the first few words spoken to fill in the text label for the recording? I thought I saw one but I can't find it now. If it requires a monthly fee or internet access, count me out, but otherwise I'd pay up to $10 for that.

SpeakEasy is brilliant. It's the best of the bunch overall.

Weird...I've been using this for a few day and found 2 things.
1) I can't figure out how to delete the audio file once you hit save.
2) I was recording my boss cursing me out so I could get him fired when my wife called and it closed the app. ARRRR 2 months of antagonizing down the tube.

I, and I'm sure many others, would love to see such a good voice recognition app to be used as voice dialer.

You can't delete the note, the developer website doesn't work....

Neat interface. That's pretty much all about it. Great idea and lousy implementation. FTP feature is useless as majority if people don't have FTP server available where to ftp notes, email is complete disaster. I was never able to send any note of any size to my email address. Ecconote was giving me error, saying there was an error with sending email, so try to senf by FTP. Funny, ah!? It would be much better app if it had sync capability to iTunes on PC and Mac
