KavaMovies keeps tabs on your flicks habit

KavaMovies is an interesting database application aimed squarely at all the movie fanatics out there. It allows you to catalog all the movies you have seen, own, hope to see or want to buy. It connects to online sources like the IMDB and Amazon to download cover art and other information.
Once you've entered your selections, KavaMovies offers recommendations based on your collection. Finally, it also keeps track of video files already on your Mac and facilitates downloading from iTunes or via bittorrent.
KavaMovies is $35US and requires Mac OS X Leopard. It's presently in beta and a demo is available for download.

Amazon does this, probably better, and it's free. $35 for an application that lists the movies you've seen? This kind of thing has got to stop.

I agree with boatofcar. 35 bucks for an application that lists movies? This gotta be a joke. It's not like they have their own online database where they fetch info from... They fetch the info from free services and expect people to pay $35... For what? 10 bucks would be more than this app deserves.

Note to developers: if that screenshot is accurate, you blew a great opportunity to employ parallelism (the rhetorical kind, not the computing kind): those buttons should clearly be called "Want It", "Seen It", "Got It", and "Love It".

Talk about solving a problem that doesn't exist. I can't believe people spend time designing this kind of thing. What's even more amazing is that other people spend money on it.

You know. I've always wanted to keep a list of the movies I've watched.
This would be a nice way to do it. Still expensive.

I think this app isn't as pointless as the other commenters say. I think my dad would get a kick out of this. He's been compiling a paper based list of all the films he's seen and it would be great for him to get movie recommendations.
Now I just need to convince him to get a Mac. Shouldn't be too hard, he loves his iPod.

Ack, built-in torrent support? That's bad JuJu, mate.

Holy crap.
This application is a pain in the arse to use, the interface is confusing, there is no way that I've found to go to the "index" to see your movies. The menus won't change position even when you delete your search, it's just a catastrophe.
Why can't there just be an application that does some of the similar functions with out managing the media? I don't want to watch my movies in some app that I organize with. Delicious is close, but it has too much going on. This one just cannot work with itself, it crashed a couple times on me while querying some searches.
I'm definitely passing on this one.

I have donwloaded it and it just doesn't work. I simply cannot add any movie to the list. It gives me a spinning wheel on the upper right corner and that's all. It looks more like an alpha release than a beta to me.
And I haven't seen anything worth as much as 35 bucks in the app. It's a kind of iLike but with movies. And that doesn't work. So that's a very good launch buzz, don't you think, Kava boys?
I think I'll pass on this one too...

If this would integrate with Netflix or Blockbuter subscriptions I think it would be a total hit. I've been wanting to get rid of my Netflix subscription but I don't want to loose the 3+ years of ratings/ recommendations I've racked up. FWIW I think the torrents integration is a total fail waiting to happen too...
