PocketMac for BlackBerry updated, supports Entourage 2008 and iTunes
Although the iPhone is the mobile platform of choice for many Mac users, some of us actually use something else. Shocking, I know. Whether it is by choice or dictated by work, tons of Mac users are also BlackBerry users. The problem is, native BlackBerry support is non-existent, leading crackberry/Mac addicts to choose between two software solutions: PocketMac and The Missing Sync. PocketMac is free for all BlackBerry users, thanks to a licensing agreement with RIM, and has just been updated to version 4.1.25.Here are some of the highlights:
- Support for Lotus Notes 7 and Entourage 2008 PIM sync. Entourage users have been waiting for this since Office 2008 was released earlier this year.
- Support for syncing non-protected iTunes playlists (Windows users don't get all the fun).
- Support for syncing iPhoto photos and albums to the BlackBerry, with options to keep albums intact and scale photos for the device. You can also import BlackBerry photos directly to iPhoto.
- Sync Notes from Leopard's Mail.app
- Support for all BlackBerry units released as of May 2008
I'm not sure if PocketMac 4.1.25 works with devices running BlackBerry OS 4.5 (my carrier hasn't officially upgraded yet), but if you are running 4.5, let us know in the comments if you can use the latest version of PocketMac. Want to make your BlackBerry look more Mac-like? Try one of the free Leopard themes available here.
PocketMac 4.1.25 requires OS X 10.3.9 or higher and is free for all BlackBerry users.

yep, works with 4.5 no problem. I am running 4.5 on my Verizon curve (the MTS 4.5 released last week) and pocket mac's latest version has no issue with it at all.

Do you sync a single device to a PC and a Mac with it? I was using the previous version of PocketMac and it would corrupt all kinds of data if I used Desktop Manager on my PC at work and PocketMac on my Mac at home. I switched to Missing Sync and no longer have any issues using one device on two machines.

Is it native to Intel yet (or at least Universal)?

Yes! I use it with an Intel MacBook

Christina, Intel based Macs can also run PPC. Right click on the program and choose "Get Info" to see if its universal or running through Rosetta.

Yup, it's universal!

A disaffected Canadian Mac user that got a Blackberry Curve a couple of weeks ago after Rogers announced their extortionistic cell phone plans for the iPhone.
Good to know about PocketMac but I've been a MissingSync user for a couple of years with my Palm TX. Given how tenuous syncing is I think I will stick with MissingSync till I get a new 'puter.
Ohhh and Rogers yes, you can still bite me for making me wait a year and a half to feel your man love. Bite me!

I bought the Bold a week ago in Germany and was able to sync Contacts etc. with the MissingSync and get the tethered modem working with some third party scripts.
Couldn't sync music because i have to buy a microSD card first in order to test this.

Gerd,
Format your SD card using your phone. Then connect the phone as a Mass Storage device to your Mac
You should see Blackberry 1 and 2 mounted.
Rename the BlackBerry to blackberry. Then you should be fine.
If you still have problem, bring up the PocketMac Sync Manager. Under the Window pull down manual, open the sync log. you should be able to see why it happens again..
I just got the Bold . And it works for me now. it;s some NEAT FREAK from Reasearch in Motion. Format the Media with captial "B"lack"B"erry. And some dumb QA from RIM never bother to run it against the new 9000 device. So disappointed.

I'm running 4.5 and have problems with the new version of PocketMac. It causes my device and computer to freeze when syncing and installing applications.

I waited since March to get a version of PocketMac to use with Entourage '08. While this does most of the trick with my 8700g, the Notes functions STILL does not work properly (nor does it work with Apple Mail!). It duplicates notes, transfers body but not title, and other such malfunctions. I don't dare do a two-way synch as that's what gets messed up. There are no "advanced preferences" for Stickies or Apple Mail Notes. GRRRRRR.

I have a new i-mac and downloaded pocketmac to sync my blackberry 8830. I have two users for my mac. For one user the program loads and syncs fine but for the other user it doesn't even load. I get a bouncing icon and an error every time I try to run it. I have seen people in other forums mentioning the same problem (but not with 2 users). I uninstalled it and reinstalled it from the 2nd user's account (who is also an admin) and it still only works for the first user. Any thoughts?
