When your finger just won't cut it, the iPhone Touch Stylus
Although the iPhone and iPod touch were designed with your finger in mind, for those who have trouble controlling the screen (or who have long, styled fingernails), there is the iPhone Japanese Touch Stylus.
The stylus has a flexible tip that mimics your finger's capacitive ability to control the objects on the screen. The tip is flexible, allowing for easy dragging without gouging your screen. It also includes a handy SIM eject tool.
The stylus is imported from Japan, and is available in silver or black. Both colors are $14.99 from ThinkGeek.

I purchased one a few weeks ago. Works like a charm, but it's a pain to carry around a "pen" with you everywhere... your index finger is more convenient to use 82% of the time :)

Which is exactly why this fails.

I could see this being useful when it's cold out and you have gloves on.

You must never wear gloves.

Ah, but this would rule for paint applications, which I find unusable with fingers. I may just grab one of these.

Yeah, fortunately for 98% of the apps out there, a stylus is unnecessary. But there are certain applications that I could see this being useful- drawing apps being one of them.

Doesn't anyone realize that the eraser end of a pencil will do the exact same thing...

Ok, I thought it would work with an eraser tip. Maybe someone else has an idea.

For what it's worth, an eraser didn't work on my iPod touch, though I have that invisibleSHIELD film installed. I'm not sure if this $15 stylus works with invisibleSHIELD, either.

Actaully with pencil eraser doesn't work on my iPod Touch (and my screen is "naked")

thus hampering forward progress for all people shackled by traditional 'smartphone' technology.
this is irresponsible.

Like others have said: gloves and long fingernails

A friend of mine has severely limited use of his joints - knuckles included.
this thing is exactly why he's getting an iPhone. (that, and when it comes to TYPING, he's faster on the iPhone than on a traditional keyboard.)
get over yourself.

How does this work? Doesn't the screen rely on some sort of static charge from the body which is why it won't work if you touch the screen with anything else?

I think it measures resistance - I've had things press in my pocket before now and my hands are normally nowhere near that.
I'd love a stylus.. my fingers are just too stubby to make typing on the iphone anything other than a complete pain in the neck. May just get one of these.

OTOH.. $33 shipping cost making a total of $48. That makes it a mite too expensive for me.

Okay, serious question here....
Can someone tell me, for sure, if the iPhone works with a pencil eraser?
My husband is a quadrilpegic who types with a mouthstick that has an eraser on the end. He's tried using my iPhone, which has an anti-glare film on it, and it wouldn't work for him. Most devices such as these work by heat sensor not touch making them seriously anti-accessible. It would rock if the iPhone is an exception!
We were going to wait until I have to replace my screen protector (since $8 is a lot to waste) but I'd love to know now.
Thanks!
