Apple offers MobileMe 60-day extension
For the second time in so many months, Apple has offered MobileMe subscribers a free extension of their current subscription. Earlier today, an email was delivered to customers stating that they'd receive a 60-day extension of their MobileMe subscription, in addition to the 30 days offered in July."We are working very hard to make MobileMe a great service we can all be proud of," the message reads. "We know that MobileMe's launch has not been our finest hour, and we truly appreciate your patience as we turn this around."
Thanks, Apple! Three months of free service is definitely a decent compensation. And for those of you spooked by the recent MobileMe-themed phishing scam, we assure you that the link in the email is legit.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

What happens if we didn't get the email?

I never got the first one about the 30 days but still got the 30 days. Don't worry too much about it.

you should still get the extension, I never got the email about my thirty day extension... then again my extension still hasn't shown up. WTF!?

@Dave. True, but my MobileMe account says I only have 52 days remaining so the whole 60 additional days thing just doesn't add up...
jthollister said 10:13PM on 8-18-2008
The free 60 days won't be credited until some time in the next few days, according to the document the email links to.
So don't worry about it until a week from now.

Never mind. Just got it. Twice.

hey TUAW webmaster!
how about having a proper reg engine so that users may be free to change their assigned password to something that:
a) they can remember!
b) can be stored by osx keychain!
sorry, cookies dont cut it.
ps: it would also be appreciated if you could have a (real) print command (or a single page view -- with option to include all/some of thye comments) ...
why?
cuz a print command is often the easiest way for lame webmasters (who dont know how to do css3!) to strip out all the clutter that just end up polluting the (desktop or enterprise) search space with superfluous terms from the non-editorial elements.

Click on your own name in the comments, and you can change your password.

@zahadum
creating a separate "print" stylesheet has nothing to do with CSS3 - it's been in the spec since CSS2.
but you're right - not having one *is* lazy.

Either I'm not getting the extension, or MobileMe is so messed up that I just didn't get the email...

Nice gesture but not really worth much. They should stop billing altogether and give a bonus three months starting from when they actually get working. Three free months of a crippled poorly functioning service is hardly worth being excited about.

What they've offered MORE than covers any issues that they had in the opening days of MobileMe. The service is NOT crippled as you say, at this point in time it has a few quirks but by and large works well! If it isn't for you, you're free to contact support and get it working, because there's nothing wrong with the service right now.
And any issues that persist will certainly be fixed within 3 months, and if not, I'm positive they'll offer additional time!
You're free to stop any auto-billing you have set up, but it's a yearly service, so stopping billing as you suggest would be completely and utterly worthless to me and most others. I'm quite happy with 60 free days.
You are impossible to please. They made a mistake, ok? It's a big company, but it's made up of humans! For christ's sake you're a demanding jerk, if I were Apple I would refuse to sell to pieces of shit like you.

jthollister,
Wow, I guess I struck a nerve.
Their giving you free time because you're otherwise paying for a service that doesn't do what it is supposed to do. This is the LEAST they could do.
And yes I know they didn't have to do even that.
As for this: "if I were Apple I would refuse to sell to pieces of shit like you," don't worry. If you were Apple I wouldn't be buying from such a hyper sensitive ass.

I wouldn't worry about not getting the emails. I have had ZERO problems with MobileMe and got both the emails.

Wow. That is a great PR move Apple. Really, I haven't ever had any problems, but I gladly take the extra 60 days in addition to the 30 you already gave me.
And Smacklin, the service has worked great for the majority of us. Now go back to your Crackberry or Windows Mobile........
