Reader report: Rebel SIM working with 3G iPhone
A reader in Barbados sent us a message today describing the success he had with a Rebel SIM card and his 3G iPhone. Having purchased a 3G in Canada, he returned to Barbados and ordered the Rebel, which has been working perfectly with no dropped calls. Barbados does not have 3G service, but decent GSM. Of course, we can't confirm the story (though we'll gladly fly over to sunny Barbados to try it out!), so your experience my vary. In the meantime, you may want to read this article on how to remove your iPhone's SIM card, or our chat with jailbreaker Pytey.

Cause those comments probably sucked. So this guy is using an iPhone 3G with edge only?

I humbly volunteer to fly to Barbados to help test this out, on behalf on TUAW's staff and readership.

Just read the "Rebel Sim Card" page and this thing sounds like a god send! If I had found this was out earlier I would've probably bought the 1st Gen iPhone in the states and bring it over to Canada.

read that.
To sum it up: Sim adapters *may* work with some carriers for a limited amount of time, but when you move out of range and lose signal or switch towers you will lose signal completely and wont be able to acquire signal again. Not to mention this method is illegal in some countries - since the method has changed with the 3g iPhone

Greetings. I am Lostbajan. I thank TUAW for posting my humble bit of news on their site.
To answer your question, we have less than EDGE, we have GPRS!
So I don't use it.
We will eventually get 3G in 2-3 years. We are a tiny country of only 250,000. So its not high on the priority list of the carriers.
Personally I ordered the Rebel Sim out of desperation.
Reading the Dev Team blog and the very worrying fact that they state "if and when" 3G will be unlocked.
I saw the ad on some google sponsored ads on iPhone blogs and did some research. I was really skeptical and was not going to bother but saw that they had "Official Distributors" in Florida. So I called the company and spoke to a Trini named Brent (Nickname for a Trinidadian, from the island of Trinidad, another island in the Caribbean, See www.mytriniphone.com) He sent me two and in 18 hours via FEDEX my phones are up and running.
I have upgraded to 2.0.1 and no problems. SMS works great and emails via Wifi no problem.
We have limited maps via Google.
I have bought several Apps from the USA iTunes store and they all function perfectly.
My only problem I had was with Mobile Me. I could not get it to push my info. However I cannot comment if this is to do with Rebel Sim or the problems Mobile Me is facing.
So come to Barbados. It is a great place for a Holiday.

good luck when you lose signal in a few days and wont be able to acquire a signal again. sim adapters are not 100% right now
