Go Hollywood with a free "In a world" ringtone

You know those movie trailers that begin with the narrator intoning the familiar words "In a world...."? Beau Weaver, a Hollywood narrator and diehard TUAW reader who does a lot of those trailers, was asked by his friends to create an iPhone ringtone that played on the same phrase. He did, and he'd like to share it with TUAW readers for free.
Just pop over to Beau's website at http://www.spokenword.com/ringtone/, listen to the ringtone, and if you like it, follow our TUAW tutorial on how to create an iPhone ringtone from an MP3 with GarageBand. To download the MP3 for slicing and dicing in GarageBand, just Control-click the link and select Save Link As.
Thanks for the fun freebie, Beau!

Also of note is Rogue Amoeba's MakeiPhoneRingtone, a small little freeware program you can use with any AAC file. I just imported the MP3 into iTunes, converted to AAC, dragged-and-dropped it onto the program window, and it was automatically thrown into my Ringtones folder. Simple and flawless. Get it here: http://rogueamoeba.com/freebies/

beau, if you ever wanted to make extra money you should do personalized ringtones like this. I'd pay $20 for you to do one for me

This is pretty cool, but it would be really awesome if he did some kind of voicemail message...! :)
I'd probably even pay for that...!

Wow, I just realized that this is one of the few iPhone optimized sites that has actually optimized the comment feature as well...!? Nice job, TUAW...! :)

This mp3 file sounds absolutely AWFUL on my phone. Has anyone else had the problem? You can barely hear his voice.

Don LaFontaine, the voiceover king whose "In a world ..." phrase on movie trailers was much copied -- and much parodied -- has died, according to media reports. He was 68.
Don LaFontaine was featured as "that voiceover guy" on a recent Geico commercial.
LaFontaine died Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, according to ETOnline, "Entertainment Tonight's" Web site. He died from complications from pneumothorax, a collapsed lung that causes air to build in the pleural cavity, his agent, Vanessa Gilbert, told "ET."
