Panic releases Coda 1.5
Panic has released Coda 1.5, a free update to my favorite all-in-one web development application.
Coda 1.5 adds several major new features, including find-and-replace across multiple files and a fully-integrated Subversion client.
Also included in the update is a user-customizable bookshelf, which allows you to specify any given website as a "book." You can also enter a sample search URL with a wildcard character, and command-click on terms to look for them in the book you created. Syntax highlighting has also been improved, as well as performance running under Leopard. Full release notes are available, too.
The update is free for all registered Coda users, and $99 for new users. Discounts are available for registered Transmit owners, too.

Yay for Subversion integration - this (IMHO) is the best new feature in 1.5 (I was in the beta). Kudos to Panic for the free update, instead of putting us on the upgrade treadmill.

and Yay for site (and folder) wide search and replace.
Guess what Adobe! Dreamweaver is done for. Now you can devote more resources to Photoshop!
Congrats to the great folks at Panic on this free upgrade, and keep up the good work! ^_^

One thing I'm waiting for is the ability to customize the background color for syntax highlighting. Makes finding PHP stuff embedded in a web page a lot easier when it has a different BG color from the HTML. This can be done in Dreamweaver, and it's one of the things I miss since I stopped using it.

find-and-replace across multiple files
Hallelujah! Now I don't have to open TextMate simply to find something!

This is GREAT news. Coda is a brilliant app, blows the pants off of Dreamweaver IMO. Bravo, Panic!

I'd like to revise my statement a bit, with the release of Dreamweaver CS4. Coda might have to worry a bit, now. DW CS4 has quite a bit of nice new features!

Search across multiple documents was a long time coming, thank god it's arrived.
Integrated Subversion: Nice idea, might finally convince me to figure out what it actually does...

I'm ready for some more big Textmate updates.

Any news on Textmate 2? I'm assuming the developer will return from some remote mountains in the Himalayas and come down with the finished code after his "enlightenment".

I have downloaded the demo and really do like this. The only thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger on this is the fact that you cannot (at least I can't find a way to do this) view your local and remote side by side like you can in transmit.
It just seems like this should be an option. Honestly I don't like being forced to click a tab to see either my remote site or local site. I like the feel of having both split side by side.
I'd really love to see this as an option.

Woo! I wonder if they got PHP files to treat HTML nicer.

Well, PHP preview for local sites is now much, much better (like, it works hella good now), which is really nice from a development standpoint.
Coda is just so kickass.

Somewhat disappointed in the view PHP feature. It seems half-assed as it doesn't support includes... that really take the "hoomph" out of it. Also many of the UI niggles are still there... I was hoping they would refine and streamline the workflow rather than focus on feature implementation (though both would have been nice). For an update that took nearly a year, it's disappointing... This doesn't deserve a 1.5 versioning.

Hey WS!
First, I'd love it if you could e-mail us with the UI niggles you're encountering!
Second, previewing PHP through a local web server should work just fine with includes. You might want to check out this helpful page:
http://www.panic.com/coda/developer/howto/dynamic-local-previews.php
Finally, as for the time this update took, I think the exhaustive release notes speak for themselves!
(I must wonder, though, what could be "deserving of a 1.5 update" (!), if not one that adds gobs of highly-requested new features, free of charge. Maybe we should have called it v1.49. :))
Best,
Cabel

And I've just switched from using SVN to Mercurial. Any plans to allow support for other versioning systems planned?

Ha, same here. I just recently decided to take the plunge and try out GIT. I didn't use it that much yet though, so to jump back to SVN isn't that much trouble.
Looking forward to trying out this new version! Thanks Panic!

When writing my (x)html and css code, it can sometimes look very messy. skEdit and TextMate both have integrated HTML Tidy support which cleans up and formats the markup. This makes the code look neat again. Can this be done in Coda? CSSEdit also formats css with indents and spacing. Can this be done in Coda?
Looking forward to trying out Coda very soon if it can somehow magically make my code look all neat and formatted.

Coda keeps getting better and better. The thing that keeps me holding back on using it for production is the texteditor. Imho it's just not as good as Textmate or Aptana/Eclipse... some improvements here and I'll throw away that Eclipse garbage...

Why does skEdit get so little love from the hip Mac blogs? Its icon was made by John Hicks, come on! It has been and still is superior to Coda, and for a much lower price.
