RapidWeaver is our "favourite" WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get)
web design tool that gives you more flexibility than what
iWeb.
Realmac Software, the developer of RapidWeaver, has updated the software to version 4.1, and included some new features that are worth a look, including:
- QuickLook support is now standard
- .Mac references have been changed to show "MobileMe"
- Images pasted into a Styled Text area keep their names as specified in Finder
- Page inspector updates when/if a page changes
- PPC support for iMedia Browser
Owners of RapidWeaver 4.0 and 3.6 are eligible for a free update to version 4.1. You can see all of the updates on the RapidWeaver
Version History page. RapidWeaver 4 is available from the
Realmac website for $79 (US). There is a free demo available as well.

Realmac has fostered a helpful forum community on their website. There are so many talented third-party developers and RW users that take the functionality of the app way beyond what you get out of the box. The interaction between Realmac, theme developers, and users adds even more value to a fun web creation tool. Granted no app in this category is perfect, but RW 4.x keeps seeing fixes and improvements.

RapidWeaver's website at http://realmacsoftware.com/ has many pages throughout it's own site with navigation menus that don't work with my Safari Browser version 2.0.4 What's up with that?

@Robert, we are no longer supporting Safari 2.0.4 as it is over 2 and a half years old and numerous updates have been released since then!
We're currently supporting Safari 3, which is a free update and can be downloaded here: http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
Thanks,
Ben Counsell - Realmac Software

Rapidweaver is *not* more flexible than iWeb. iWeb is much more flexible in how it lets you position page elements (divs) flexibly on the page whereas rapidweaver is tied to its given templates. iWeb is full of stupid limitations, but fundamentally it is much more powerful than rapidweaver.

You can, of course, customize the template css. You could also buy the inexpensive "Blocks" plugin from YourHead, which allows you to do what you describe.

I completely agree with Max, the Blocks plug-in does exactly what you want and MORE.
I got RW is some bundle a couple of years ago and I love it. Sure, you can get something else, but this works so easy and has plug-ins that let you do so much more.
I didn't like how iWeb wouldn't let me look under the hood if I wanted to, which I do because I'm learning how to do things better. RW gives me just enough, and I use Coda when I want to dig deeper.

iWeb's problem (for me, at least) is the lack of ability to set multiple users and passwords for a page. That doesn't affect joe average but it sure affects me.

I don't like the fact that the version 4 software is 10.5 only. It makes me think that any future updates will only support the latest version of OS X.
Any company that does not support at least the last OS in the new versions will never get my money. It shows lack of support for old users.

You can still use 3.6.
Some of us are glad that software developers are embracing new technology, and many new features and under-the-hood stuff requires Leopard.
