Busy Labor Day for Apple rumors

While the TUAW team was enjoying our holiday grilling (important safety tip: be sure to clean out the grease trap on your grill at the end of the season, so you don't have an incendiary problem... and also, it's true that baking soda really works well on grease fires) our sister scribes at Engadget were pumping out a few posts on some percolating iPhone & iPod items, mostly from the Berlin IFA trade show. The scorecard:
One rumor post that, while it still may pan out, is awaiting some evidentiary support: this Best Buy circular leak that purports to show a new iPod touch model. We all want a new touch, but in this case the circular turns out to be over a month old. Good thing I can still save that $300 and put it towards the iFridge

do you not see the ipod in there? it's counterfeit. it's got all the indications of it including shoddy ugly screenprinting on the off-colour scrollwheel. they're not a reputable manufacturer of iPod accessories as far as i know so their building cases for what really, really looks like a counterfeit piece of gear doesn't mean anything. sorry.

you guys need to source check, there's no proof this is actually an 'in the wild' sighting.

Collie, the "iPod" inside the case is a paper insert. Nobody's saying they saw the actual device, but the presence of premanufactured accessories is telling.

Actually, I believe it does indicate that a new iPod is on the way.

We've seen a lot of leaks lately coming from the accessories side of things. I think Apple's using more accessory manufacturers, and supplying them with specs farther in advance. Like Griffin's iphone 3g molds, they need time to tool up for these things. Remember that iPhone 3g Case we saw from the virtually unknown manufacturer? iSkn or something like that?

I think either one of two things is happening. Either Foxconn (Apple's Chinese Manufacturer) is scratching the backs of fellow factories who do accessories for Apple (or they own the factories doing accessories for Apple), or the Accessory manufacturers are putting more pressure on Apple for info.

I Still don't believe in this "thin" ipod nano. would apple first shrink it down to the size of 3g nano and now size it up again. I can't see why apple would do this. It feels like there is no need for a bigger screen isn't the nano meant to be small.

They're changing it constantly to keep the design fresh and new so regular people will feel inclined to buy it. If they didn't, and every new ipod looked the same, there would be no real reason to upgrade.

A manufacturer building cases based on "leaked" specifications doesn't really indicate... oh, nevermind, it's just not worth it.
