September 9th Apple Event confirmed

According to Ars Technica and our own tipster Matt, Apple has sent out invitations to the media confirming the much anticipated September 9th iPod event. The invitation features an iPod screen with the words "Let's Rock" on it. According to the invite, the event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (located in San Francisco) at 10 am PT next Tuesday.

We have reason to believe that Apple will only refresh the iPods, instead of introducing new models to the MacBook line -- this is consistent with the invite.

What do you think will be released at this event? Be sure to take part in our poll, and in the comments.

Thanks for the tip, Matt.

"We have reason to believe that Apple will only refresh the iPods"........

What is your reason to believe etc.

I think the touch will have major memory and feature/capability upgrades.

An iPod Touch with a built in mic, for note taking, and a VOIP app. 16/32/64 capacities, CUT & PASTE,, better and more versatile file management (we have 16, 32 or 64 gigs to play with, better let us drop other files on our iPod Touch!!!). Bluetooth, and NO camera!!! (At least I hope not).

This would be my dream Touch anyhow.

Sweet my Mom's B-day... perhaps I can get her a present. There has to be more than just some iPods being released otherwise why a whole event just for an iPod refresh. More than likely there will be some new iTunes store goodness to go with it... the unlimited model perhaps, the software will be updated (gosh I hope they have a better search feature for that store) and some much needed reorganization its getting to be a pain.
Perhaps we'll see a refresh of the Macs as an aside...

I'm rooting for new Macbook Pros, but I'm not getting too excited with the ipod-focus of the event teaser. Still, I can hope for one more thing :)

As much as I'd like a new MacBook Pro, I think it's more likely that Apple is killing off hard-disk based iPods. I think the iPod Classic will disappear and we'll get higher capacity nano's and touches. I think this is the product transition that will hit Apple's profit margins as flash costs more per GB than hard disks but they want to sell at a no-brainer price point.
