Apple prepares for iPod event, puts up banners

According to iPhone Savior, Apple is preparing for their Tuesday, September 9th event by placing banners up outside of the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco. As we get closer to the event, it looks more and more likely to pan out as a true iPod event, bringing updates to the iPod nano, and other surprises.

MacRumors notes that Apple is urging the media to attend this event, denoting it as a "big deal." The event will be held this coming Tuesday (September 9, 2008) at 10 a.m. Pacific time, 1 p.m. Eastern time. TUAW will be providing coverage throughout the day, so be sure to check in often.

Tyrannous,

The headphone socket is on the bottom of iPod touch and iPod nano, which is a shame because it means you can't rest the iPod on anything when the headphones are connected.

I prefer it. It means you can hold the device up without the cable bending away and round, and easily keep it upside down in your pocket so it's the right way up when you take it out. I wish the iPhone's was on the bottom.

i am visiting SF and noticed these, did anyone else notice the cord was coming out of the bottom of the ipod in all the ad's?
i cant imagine they are holding the products upside down.
i looked up some of the old silhouette ads and noticed they were holding them right, is this a new ipod hint or a marketing mixup?

Current gen iPod Touch has the headphone jack at the bottom. Same goes the Nano.

Has it occurred to anyone that 'big deal' may be a play on words. Perhaps the 'deal' is in the unlimited number of songs one could download for a monthly subscription.

You've got to wonder what a banner like the one shown in that photo costs. You don't get that made at Kinko's... that's for damn sure.

I just walked past the Apple store on Stockton Street in San Francisco, they're emptying the tables downstairs and are closed pretty early (I'm only on here on vacation, so maybe they do this every night?)... It seems like they're preparing for something though.

Indeed.

Does TUAW have any job openings for people who can just sit and look at other tech sites & post news around the time when it *actually happens*?

As a matter of fact, we do. I see your comment was posted at an odd hour for us (nearly all East coast). So put your money where your mouth is and send us 3 sample posts via the tips form.

thanks!

In these silhouette ads the iPods have always been white, so the colour of the iPod in the banner means nothing.

A white iPod touch does seem likely though. Guess we'll know by this time tomorrow, huh?

Another iPod-only event that'll make me go "hm, that's it?"..

Sigh, I *want* to give Apple $2k for a new MBP, but it's like they don't want me to buy one. :P

If you don't have the Beatles on your iPod by now, chances are you just aren't a fan.

Does the event have many leather bound books and an apartment smelling of rich mahogany?
