I don't understand the benefit of Air Sharing, since supposedly the ability to read files from other app folders will be 'fixed' (to not work) in 2.1, and you can only drop files into the Air Sharing folder which other apps can't read.

Umm... you can share files with other computers, think wireless drive homeboy.

I really love Air Sharing. Free and works perfect. Hmm... is text guru on sale because of the iPhone copy+paste rumors for tomorrow?

Nope, it's on sale because Apple set the price to 0.99 by mistake even though we had it set as 4.99, so we decided to keep it at 0.99 for the rest of the day as a fun "experiment".

Its unfortunate that you can't mail the files out after you've loaded it onto your iPhone! Though the connection process was really really quick and painless.

I am really impressed with Air Sharing! Although I do wish that there was a way to access the files for email or other purposes, the fact that it supports so many different types of files is amazing. Plus, file transfer is essentially instantaneous.
Thanks for telling us about it! I probably wouldn't have known otherwise!

I guess Air Share is good if every computer you work with has wifi. In a corporate environment, most computers do not. I'll hang onto my thumb drive for now.

You don't need every computer to have wi-fi, they just all need to be on a network with wi-fi. It shares the iPhone via Bonjour the same way that any Mac on the network does sharing.
DistortedLoop said 8:36AM on 9-09-2008
@Brandon Rotkel - mcdj is correct. In the corporate environment, where WiFi is probably not ubiquotous or open due to security concerns, the iPhone as a WiFi drive will never be a replacement for a USB connection. In numerous corporate clients I visit, WiFi is completely banned.

I'm having trouble setting Air Sharing it up in Vista. In the "Add a Network Location" wizard, it rejects the ip address that Air Sharing told me to enter ("address does not appear to be valid"). Any tips?

Wow, sorry, I didn't read the instructions carefully. Windows Vista users, you'll need this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=17C36612-632E-4C04-9382-987622ED1D64&displaylang=en to use Air Sharing.

Like ipodrulz said, a way to mail out documents once they're in your "library" would make it the killer app. That's my only feature request- that, and allowing it to be "discovered" like Bonjour connected, shared computers (or drives). You put those things on it, and you've got a hands down winner.
