Terminal Tips: Disable iTunes 8 store arrows
Last week we talked about how to modify the iTunes track arrows to point to the library instead of the music store. With the introduction of iTunes 8 yesterday, this hack no longer works (it will still work if you stick with iTunes 7.x). However, you can easily remove the iTunes store links entirely, if you prefer. Just open Terminal (/Applications/Utilities) and enter the following command: defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-store-arrow-links -bool FALSE
When you re-launch iTunes, the links will be gone. To get things back to normal, just replace "FALSE" with "TRUE."[via Mac OS X Hints]

For Windows User:
1. Ensure iTunes is not open. Browse to the iTunes Application Data folder (C:Documents and SettingsUserApplication DataApple ComputeriTunes on XP, C:UsersUserAppDataRoamingApple ComputeriTunes on Vista, substituting the drive letter and the user profile name where necessary.
2. Backup and open the iTunesPrefs.xml with a half decent text editor (ie not Notepad, my personal preference is Notepad++)
3. Find the User Preferences key, and below the tag insert:
show-store-arrow-links
AA==
to disable the links to the store.
4. Start iTunes.

So, by default, pressing ALT will show artists/albuns and if you use this teminal tip, with ALT you'll go to the iTS
Yea, links pointing to my library still works for me!

Anyone else notice that the "Show genre when browsing." option is now gone? I'm stuck with always looking at genres!
Override?
